Chapter 25

A Lorekeeper. A Champion.

          Nicholas watched as the ancient city of Sootopolis grew in front of him. He’d made his plans known to his harem the day before, so if Lucy stayed true…

          Sure enough, as Zinnia carried him down to the grassy fields in the center of the city he saw multiple figures streaming down towards them.

          Steven ran up a few seconds after they had landed. “Nicholas!”

          Nicholas let go of Zinnia and moved to take the man’s hand. “Hello, Champion Stone.” He smiled when he heard an explosion in the water behind him and Zinnia shifted aside to let the charging Sharpedo access to her tamer. “Give me just a moment.”

          Marin slammed into him with all the force she could muster and Nicholas held on, spinning her around and sending her crashing across the ground. Marin was scrambling back to her feet, curses and exclamations mixing with her tears, when she felt someone wrap their arms around her.

          She went still as Nicholas reached up to whisper in her ear. After a few seconds of them standing like this Nicholas let go and Steven watched Marin return his embrace, squeezing the man tightly as he laughed before she, too, stepped back and watched him turn to Steven once again.

          “And just like that, the silver tongue strikes again,” Steven said when Nicholas walked over to rejoin him. “You know, she thought she was never going to see you again.”

          “I thought so too,” Nicholas replied. “I’m glad to have been wrong.”

          Steven nodded. “Well. I’ve been hearing some interesting things.” His eyes flicked to Zinnia and back to Nicholas. “I hear Rayquaza gave her life to calm Kyogre and Groudon one final time.”

          Nicholas smiled. “That’s correct. This is Zinnia, my Salamence. You may recognize her.”

          Steven grunted. “I thought Zinnia was a Draconid Lorekeeper.”

          “I was,” Zinnia replied, “but no longer. Through Lady Rayquaza’s power I was reborn in a form that is better suited to serving the true Lorekeeper.”

          “That being Nicholas here.” Steven shook his head. “Legendaries. The power they possess is beyond human comprehension. I don’t think I’m even going to try.” He shrugged. “Oh well! It’s all over, then, Nicholas. The cults are scattered. Maxie is in prison, and Archie is dead. Kyogre and Groudon have retreated, and their effects have all but faded away. I suppose all that’s left is to thank you for what you’ve done.”

          “It was my duty,” Nicholas replied simply. “And on that note, I believe she belongs to you.”

          Steven accepted the pokeball Nicholas handed him. “Lucy?”

          “That’s right.”

          “I hope she served you well.”

          “She is an excellent healer, but no. She served you well,” Nicholas chuckled. “I would love to have kept her forever but I know where her loyalty lies.”

          Steven gave him a nervous grin. “You’re not… mad, are you?”

          “Nope. I appreciate your concern.” Nicholas turned to the second man that had joined them. “Wallace. What will happen to the Cave now?”

          Wallace shrugged. “We will protect it, as we always have. If Kyogre and Groudon never rise again it will be forgotten in the mists of time, as it was before.”

          “The legendary twins, Latios, Latias,” Nicholas said, cutting in before Zinnia’s opening mouth could speak, “have sworn to uphold Rayquaza’s will. Even if those primal sisters do stir, you will have guardians.”

          Wallace bowed. “Thank you, Lorekeeper.”

          “Don’t be thanking me,” Nicholas laughed, “because if I remember correctly, you’re a gym leader.”

          Steven laughed as Wallace straightened up with a smile. “You challenge me, Lorekeeper?”

          “I do.”

          Wallace turned to the large building that dominated the center of the crater. “Then let me honor you with a true battle, a celebration of our victory!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
          “This will be a six v six pokegirl battle. Single, free substitutions.” Steven had shoved the gym assistant out of the referee’s box the moment they’d walked into the arena. “Challenger Topolski. You carry eight pokeballs. You must declare two inactive or be disqualified.”
          Nicholas handed two of his pokeballs to Zinnia. “You can head to the Battle Frontier if you’d like. That’s where the others are waiting.”
          Zinnia grinned. “I will watch my Master’s battle, and then we will go to meet our new family.”
          Nicholas nodded and watched her flap into the stands behind Steven. “I have done so.”
          “Very good. Leader Wallace! Are you ready.”
          “I am,” Wallace called.
          “Challenger Topolski! Are you ready.”
          “I am,” Nicholas replied.
          “Then on my count, release your first pokegirl. Three. Two. One. Begin!”
          Nicholas triggered his pokeball and watched the Gyarados that had carried him here the first time materialize. “So. She was yours.”
          Wallace smiled and Steven leaned forwards when Bea materialized in front of Nicholas. “I would like to witness our harems dance together, Lorekeeper. Will you join me?”
          Nicholas blinked. “What do you mean?”
          “No commands. No assistance. We humans will only watch the display between us. One will lead, the other will follow.”
          “I see. A dance.” Nicholas frowned to himself. “I challenged you to a gym battle. I have no incentive to handicap myself.”
          “If you do not command them, they will only put in as much effort as they feel you deserve,” Wallace explained. “Are you afraid of that, Lorekeeper?”
          Nicholas watched Bea tense. “No. No, I am not.”
          “Then join me.” Wallace spread his arms. “True beauty comes when battles are fueled by the heart.”
          Nicholas settled back with a tiny smile. Technically, he didn’t have to say a word. Kalmiya was his pokegirl too and she would love to take the lead here. “Very well. I accept. Until this battle ends I will not say a word.”
          “Excellent!” Wallace laughed. “Then let the dance begin!”
          Bea watched the Gyarados float into the air and joined her, both pokegirls twisting as they felt out their opponent in the newly three-dimensional battlefield. As Bea raised her arms her new gauntlets broke free and began hovering beside her. Formed from meteoritic iron Zinnia had brought her during their time on the Sky Pillar, the same material that composed the Draconid artifact Nicholas now wore, they were nothing like the crude things she had used at Mt. Chimney. These were works of art, speckled from the composition of the metal and almost seeming to glimmer with light. They were also very, very dense, and very, very heavy. Something Wallace’s Gyarados was about to find out.
          The Gyarados’ lower body shimmered as she shifted to her water dragon form and her legs vanished. Instantly Bea was reacting, her arms locking and her gauntlets moving to cover her stomach. The Gyarados flexed, shooting through the air as her mouth opened, shadows erupting and her teeth beginning to glow with power.
          Bea’s head snapped back when she blocked. She had managed to avoid letting the Gyarados get her teeth into her, but the shadows had easily passed through her guard. When she disengaged her eyes were wild, black flickering over them as she fought the Gyarados’ stifling presence.
          The Gyarados twisted around, intent on pressing her advantage, before her own arms were thrown up in an attempt to block. Bea’s gauntlets glowed with psychic power as they rocketed forwards and the Gyarados screamed when one of her arms bent from the impact. She dove away, dodging as Bea’s gauntlets pursued her, before surging straight for the motionless Metagross again. This time Bea was distracted and her own scream could be heard when the Gyarados sank her teeth into Bea’s shoulder, her fangs easily piercing the Metagross’ tough skin.
          Bea was wilting, water building in the Gyarados’ hands as she prepared to finish her off, when a wet crack echoed through the arena.
          Bea shoved the slowly crumpling Gyarados off of her, massaging her shoulder when the girl’s teeth tore free and blood began to well. The Gyarados herself slammed to the ground, the gauntlet that had snuck up on her pulling itself free from the back of her head and moving back to where Bea still hovered.
          “Point to the challenger!”
          Wallace recalled his Gyarados and pulled out a white and blue pokeball. When he triggered it Bea drifted backwards.
          The pokegirl that appeared was massive. Not as much in height, but rather her entire body, making it hard to tell exactly what her form was under all of the curves. Breasts, ass, thighs, arms, she was a rippling mountain of muscle and flesh that stalked towards the drifting Metagross.
          She’s not just a pillow, she’s an entire mattress, Nicholas thought to himself before he forced himself to pay attention to the battle. With that much mass she would be much less susceptible to Bea’s tricks.
          Bea watched as the slow-moving girl planted. Water began appearing on her skin and she scowled when she felt the power building. Something big was coming.
          Well, only if she let it. Bea landed daintily, using only one foot to catch herself before her leg flexed and she launched towards the enemy Wailord. Her gauntlets returned to her hands as power built, and soon Bea had become a glowing missile that rocketed towards her opponent.
          Shockwaves rippled across the Wailord’s body when Bea impacted and the water she was gathering sprayed through the air. Nicholas could hear a pained roar as the Wailord staggered. Still, even as she curled up around the impact point, the spray began to get much heavier.
          Bea was battered to the floor as the rain of water turned into walls of it that filled the entire arena. Eventually the flow ebbed, clearing to reveal the Wailord curled up and Bea prostrate in front of her.
          Nicholas waited. Steven hadn’t called the point so he waited to see who would move first.
          Slowly, Bea struggled to her knees. The beginning of heavy bruising could be seen on her exposed skin but she staggered upright. The Wailord was gasping, still curled up and seeming to be in heavy pain as Bea approached.
          Bea’s finishing strike held no energy to it. She was on her last legs as Wallace recalled his Wailord and she nearly dropped to a knee when the target she had been leaning on vanished. A moment later she was staring at a Starmie and a moment after that Nicholas was recalling her from the floor.
          “Points to both the challenger and the Leader!”
          Nicholas smiled as he watched the Starmie’s body flicker. Her psychic power caused illusions, he’d witnessed it before. She was dangerous. But he had a way to make her useless.
          Midna appeared and straightened as she took in the Starmie. Wallace’s hand twitched to his belt, for her pokeball, and in that moment of indecision Midna struck. Above the arena Steven’s eyebrow rose when he saw an Absol racing into battle.
          Midna’s tail slashed back and forth as she brought her arms forwards. The bladed horn on her head began to bleed shadow as a serrated armor formed along her arms, similar but much more refined to what she had created when feral and fighting Morgana. The Starmie moved now, Wallace still hesitating with her pokeball, and she abandoned her psychic abilities entirely to focus on emitting water.
          Midna ducked as staccato blasts sought her body, dipping and weaving until she saw one coming she couldn’t avoid. With a battle cry she sliced her arms forwards, cutting through and hissing when the attack still broke her skin. But that had been all the Starmie could muster and now Midna was on top of her.
          Nicholas paid close attention as the Absol began slashing her blades through the space between the two pokegirls. This was the first time he’d truly seen Midna in battle. The trip from Fortree to Lilycove had seen her deferring to the others more times than not, and even when she had fought a feral it had only been because she herself had been backed into a corner. She didn’t like to fight. So why was she so good at it?
          The shadows flowing from Midna’s body swirled around the two pokegirls – Midna would slash, the blade would connect, or be blocked, and immediately it would dissolve just to form somewhere else. The Starmie was helpless as Midna sliced her to pieces.
          Midna finished her final motions as the Starmie’s recall beam saved her and came to a halt, drawing her arms back as the shadows returned to her fur. Wallace ignored Steven’s call, his composure beginning to falter, and bypassed every pokeball on his belt in favor of one that sat alone.
          Midna settled into a lower stance when her next opponent materialized. The pokegirl coiled her serpentine body beneath her and similarly lowered her stance, though in her case it was to create a defensive wall. Nicholas barely managed to remain quiet when Kalmiya began talking rapidly. A Milotic. And not just any Milotic, but likely the one on record as Wallace’s Alpha.
          Midna slowly moved towards the waiting Milotic. She seemed to compress a bit more with every passing moment, focusing in on the approaching Absol. Then, as Midna was just about to get in range, the Milotic attacked.
          Midna instantly jumped backwards but the sudden movement hadn’t been a strike. With a howl freezing wind erupted from the Milotic’s palms, picking up the water she was firing from her mouth and whipping it into a roiling blizzard that bore down on Midna. Midna began whimpering as the shards of ice sliced at her skin and she staggered forwards, raw and bleeding patches across her body beginning to add red to the swirling white. She managed to make up the ground she had lost in her retreat and struck, but in the blinding snow her attack sailed wide, only scratching the Milotic before she felt a blast of ice throw her off her feet. When her body finally tumbled to a halt in front of Nicholas she did not get up.
          Nicholas recalled her and peered into the driving sleet. Somewhere in there was a dangerous pokegirl. Simply by being inside that snowstorm most of his pokegirls would be at a disadvantage. He could use Aria; but if the Milotic could manipulate her water into ice this easily he was afraid of what she’d do to the Flying/Dragon-type.
          Only one thing to do. Clear the snow.
          Elaine burst from her pokeball and instantly ignited, roaring as her flames grew and chased away the ice. Through the sudden steam in the arena the Milotic could be seen charging an attack and before Elaine could move she fired.
          Luckily for Elaine the steam provided a similar condition to the blizzard – in the shimmering heat the Milotic’s aim had been fouled and the colossal blast of water she had fired sailed wide. Elaine didn’t hesitate, even faced by an attack that would certainly destroy her, and she sprinted straight at her opponent. One kick, two, the Milotic was thrown out of her defensive coil and slid across the ground but as Elaine turned to pursue the lamia flipped, her body spinning her away before a more carefully aimed blast caught Elaine right in the chest.
          The energy barrier around the arena crackled as the Milotic’s water pinned Elaine to it and Nicholas recalled her when the sodden Blaziken dropped free. She’d done her job. He could see the damage the Milotic had sustained from her and Midna’s efforts. And with the blizzard gone…
          The Milotic turned when she saw the next flash of red but unfortunately for her she was nothing but the prey. She gurgled when Marin rocketed forwards, jets of water propelling her before the Milotic could even blink and sending the Sharpedo straight for the Milotic’s neck. The two slammed to the ground and Marin ripped her head back, a spray of red following her as she tore out the girl’s throat.
          Nicholas winced when he saw what she had done. This was a true battle, yes. But watching the Sharpedo reminded him clearly of who she was inside. Who she would not hesitate to be if he let her. Blood dripping from her jaws Marin watched the Milotic fade into her recall beam and spat her mouthful of flesh in front of the next materializing pokegirl.
          The flamboyantly dressed pokegirl that appeared screamed when she saw the bloody grin Marin was giving her. Nicholas heard Kalmiya gasp a warning and immediately recalled Marin, just in time as a storm of leaves swept through where she had just been standing. The girl scrambled back when she saw that her opponent had vanished before calming a bit when Nicholas triggered another pokeball.
          Which turned right back into fear when Aria spread her wings. She tried to attack but Aria flew circles around her, laughing in her songlike voice with every missed opportunity, and as the Ludicolo began to falter Aria winged high, high above her, air rustling between her outstretched wings until a hurricane bore down on the hapless Grass-type.
          When Wallace recalled her the girl’s plant-based clothing was shredded and torn, leaving her shivering in the whipping winds and looking very, very small.
          To Nicholas’ surprise Steven called the point in his favor. He couldn’t ask why without speaking but he assumed the broken pokegirl had lost her will to fight and watched Wallace select his final pokeball. This was it.
          Aria flapped away when a girl covered in blue chitinous armor appeared. The tentacles sprouting from her head were stretching in the Altaria’s direction as the Tentacruel herself raised her eyes to watch the circling dragon. She gauged her opponent for a minute or so before acting and Aria went into a dive to avoid as stingers launched from the Tentacruel’s tentacles. She howled when a few found their mark and the Tentacruel staggered backwards, bracing against the sound Aria was making before returning the favor with a supersonic scream of her own.
          Aria completely ignored her effort and screamed back. This scream though wasn’t an attack. Instead, as it flowed from a scream to a haunting melody, the Tentacruel’s body began to droop.
          Nicholas punched the air when the girl collapsed. This was it! She was wide open!
          “My Lord!”
          Nicholas froze with his hand in the air. Aria’s wings flared, bringing her down to land in front of the slumbering Tentacruel. “I do not deserve this glory. Let one of my sisters make the final blow.”
          Nicholas stared at her. Aria was standing proud, and for the first time, it was not conceited. She had won. All she’d have to do is obliterate the Tentacruel with her dragonbreath. She knew that. She knew he knew that. There was nothing to prove here. And for the first time, Aria understood that.
          Nicholas smiled and recalled her. When Morgana appeared Wallace lowered his eyes, and as Morgana caused the space around the Tentacruel to warp Wallace raised her pokeball. The jelly girl vanished, and Nicholas could hear Steven calling the results. “In a score of six to three. The winner is challenger Topolski!”
          “I’m sorry. You didn’t have to hold back so much,” Nicholas said when he and Wallace met.
          Wallace began chuckling. “Hold back? That was my harem, Nicholas Topolski. A part of it, at least. No, they may have done better with my leadership, but so may have yours. I lost.” He handed Nicholas his badge. “I used to be Champion, you know. Once upon a time I defeated Steven. A few years later, he did to me what you just did. I’ve been chasing him ever since.” He shrugged. “I thought I’d gotten stronger but I can see I still have a very long ways to go.”
          Nicholas smiled slightly and shook Wallace’s hand before turning to the stands. Steven was watching him but he focused on the pokegirl picking her way down.
          Zinnia met him near the door. “The leader wanted a dance. A pure display of the hearts of your pokegirls.” She smirked. “He was not ready for what you are.”
          “What they are, you mean.”
          “They mirror their Master,” Zinnia replied. “All of your fury and power is what fuels them. As long as they wish it to, and each and every one that entered that arena was filled with your strength.”
          Nicholas walked outside with her. “My journey through Hoenn has been rough. I’ve found powerful allies to follow me.”
          “You have.” She stretched up and kissed him before her wings unfurled. “I will be waiting for you. We both will.”
          “Try not to cause any trouble,” Nicholas called as she took off. “Be the… ‘bigger pokegirl’ when you meet Kali. For my sake?”
          Zinnia laughed. “I am eager to meet her, but I will refrain from destroying the island in my haste. Besides. Celebi will be there. I would not dare act up around one of the original ones.” She laughed again before lazily drifting, flapping out of the crater and vanishing from sight.
          Nicholas shook his head and released Aria. “Fly us a bit northeast, please. I need to figure out how we’re getting to Mossdeep and I know the answer isn’t here.”
          Marin rose from the waves breaking off Mossdeep’s shores and a few seconds later Nicholas could be seen clinging to her front, completely naked with his dick pulling free from the shifting Sharpedo’s vagina. He said something and kissed her but Marin ignored him completely, wading through the surf and dumping him on solid ground.
          Nicholas released Aria and accepted his bag from her, pulling out a towel and drying off before slipping some clothes on. “So, Marin. Do you think the orgasms made you swim faster or slower?”
          He felt her wrap herself around his body, instantly soaking the dry clothes he’d just put on. “You know what you were doing,” she breathed in his ear. “You bastard.”
          Nicholas grinned. “I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he said, louder than necessary to make Aria take notice. She’d been pouting a bit after his first statement but perked up when she heard his tone. “I ask because the slower you swam the more time I’d be inside of you, isn’t that right?”
          “You are such a fucking bastard,” Marin hissed.
          Nicholas was snickering as she released him and stomped further down the beach. Aria slid closer with an expression that was fighting not to be outright curiosity. “What’s that about, Lord?”
          “Oh, the first day she realized that if she swam slower the trip would take longer and that meant more time where I’d be fucking her,” Nicholas replied. “The second day she realized the slower she swam, the slower I thrust.”
          Aria slowly began to laugh, Marin shooting them both a dirty look before whirling away again. “Oh, Lord, that is such a fitting punishment.”
          “I thought so too. Just like yours was to suffer under the weight of your own sins.”
          Aria’s mirth faded a bit but she was still smiling as she bowed. “Yes, Lord, but it was fitting because it was the punishment you chose. Any punishment would have been as long as you decided upon it.”
          “And I call it fitting because it allowed you to learn,” Nicholas replied, reaching out and running his hands through Aria’s hair. She started to lean into him before pulling away with a yelp as Nicholas laughed. She’d fallen for it and the water Marin had transferred to him was now absorbed into her feathers.
          “Lord!”
          Nicholas took another look and laughed even harder. Aria’s wings were mostly air so even the moderate amount of water had caused a chain reaction. They had melted into a pair of whip-like appendages that held none of the beauty Aria prized and now she was whirling back and forth in a panic as she tried to dry off.
          He heard heavy footsteps and Marin returned to him with a snort. “Okay. That makes me feel a little better.”
          Nicholas chuckled and snagged Aria by the arm, drawing both pokegirls into a hug that Aria very vocally protested. Within seconds every feather on her body was plastered to her skin. “You pokegirls and drawing pleasure from the suffering of your harem sisters. Unfortunately for you,” Marin yelped when the hand he’d wrapped around her grabbed hold of her breast and squeezed, “I take pleasure in manipulating your little power games.”
          Marin felt herself blushing as Nicholas kneaded her breast. “I take pleasure in… letting you enjoy my body,” she said, before her eyes drifted to Aria and saw that he was doing the exact same thing to the Altaria.
          Nicholas smirked when he saw her looking and pinched Aria’s nipple, causing her to moan. “Do you now?”
          Marin’s teeth clenched together and she trembled as he began focusing more on Aria. This damn human.
          Nicholas let off when Aria began panting, causing her to whine in protest and Marin to let out her breath when he let go of her breast. “Let’s get you all healed up.I’ve got a few things to do and then I want to take a look at the gym here too.”
          He could feel both pokegirls’ eyes begin to turn on him so he recalled them and struck off with a jaunty whistle. Sure, they could release themselves again. A smile tugged at his lips. But if they did, they’d just be giving into their lust. They were smart enough to know that.
          He blinked as he thought about what he’d just done. Not just teased Aria and Marin, but taunted them… made them feel like they were not in control. That wasn’t like him. Was it?”
          Nicholas’ smug expression dropped away. No. That wasn’t him. Or, it was, but in the past he’d fought that part of him and suppressed it. Ever since the events at the Sky Pillar, however, he’d slipped into the dragon’s mindset more and more often. And he felt no remorse for whatever actions he made.
          He would have to be much more careful. Or perhaps it was finally time to merge who he wanted to be with what he was. Before he lost who he wanted to be completely.
          Maybe he could figure out a way to dull the edge, Nicholas thought as he waited for his harem to be healed at the pokecenter. No, even thinking that was making excuses. His dragon’s blood might have been awakened, but he was meant to be more than it. If he made excuses for it it was the same as admitting that he was weak. Nicholas’ fingers curled into a fist. He was not weak. The man who shared his body and name had once been. But he was not anymore.
          Marin appeared in front of the Mossdeep pokecenter and Nicholas watched her immediately pull into herself slightly. “Marin, I want to apologize. I felt a need a few minutes ago to put you in your place when nothing you had done had justified that.”
          Marin’s body language opened up as she blinked at him and Nicholas released Aria next, repeating his apology to the surprised Altaria. The two pokegirls looked at each other before looking back as Aria smiled. “There’s no need to apologize, my Lord,” she said. “It was just… surprising. I have never felt my status so… firmly, before.”
          “You felt like a pokegirl. Like my Alpha, but even more,” Marin said. “Was that not your intention?”
          “It was, but neither of you deserved to feel that way right then,” Nicholas replied. “Are you saying it wasn’t uncomfortable?”
          Aria laughed and Marin smirked. “He’s still that fretting human,” Marin called to Aria. “Sometimes I want to crush his head and get away from it all.”
          “Our Lord is strange but he does what he believes is best for us,” Aria replied seriously. “It must be hard for such a magnificent being to understand our feelings.”
          “Uh… I’m right here?” Nicholas said. “Hello?”
          “And we are here, Lord,” Aria replied, “holding a conversation we have had many times without you present.” She rubbed her cheek to his as Marin similarly began touching him. “I understand, perhaps better than any of us, the mercy of my Lord. The love. The care he holds for us.” Nicholas sighed as he felt Marin’s hand worming into his pants. They were in public, but neither pokegirl seemed to care. “Our eyes opened by that building that day. And now, after witnessing what came after, we see you as you truly are. Lord.”
          “What I’m understanding from this entire interaction is that me reaffirming my control over the two of you made you both hot.” He shook his head when Marin nipped his ear. “Great! I guess I don’t know what I expected.”
          He managed to pull the two out of sight of the main road before his pants came off. Still, he needed to be more careful. Marin and Aria both appreciated a bit of domination, but… No, and Morgana probably would, but… No, and Bea might like the reversal, but… No, and Elaine was Elaine…
          Nicholas felt the blood draining from his face as he ran through every single pokegirl in his harem. Oh no. In some capacity, they all would like what his dragon’s blood had just urged him to do. Try as he might, he couldn’t think of a single one who would take it poorly.
          He needed to control himself. Otherwise he’d constantly be surrounded by hot and bothered pokegirls.
          Midna materialized to see her tamer covered in sweat and her nose twitched a few times as his heavy scent washed over her. Nicholas put her pokeball back on his belt and started wiping his face as he spoke. “Hey. Sorry, I wanted to spend time with you once we got here but Marin and Aria stole some of it.”
          Midna glanced around to read the environment. They were outside, but partially tucked away behind some buildings. “Spend time… how?”
          “Well, I still know barely anything about you.” Nicholas finished drying off the best he could and straightened his shirt. “Everyone else, I know their stories. I know what makes them happy, how they like to spend time, all of that. You and I, we never really started our relationship. You tagged along at first unsure if you would die or be proven wrong because of me. Neither of those outcomes seem like a good ending.”
          Midna nodded slightly. “I did not think so either, but I think differently now. Being proven wrong was the most wonderful beginning I could have imagined.”
          Nicholas smiled softly. “Midna.”
          “You brought me to meet my goddess,” Midna said quietly, “and I learned that the human who is now my tamer was her all along. I was prepared to die, Master. I thought I was putting my faith where it did not belong. To now realize that I never turned away from her, and that you want me as yours, that I will directly serve the one who calms the world?” She bowed her head. “No, it is more wonderful than I ever imagined.”
          “See? This is precisely the kind of the thing I’m talking about.” Midna lifted her eyes when she felt Nicholas pulling up on her chin and she gazed at his smiling face. “We know almost nothing about one another. I had no idea you revered Rayquaza. You had no idea my heritage. Is that it, then? Why you became… what you did, in Sootopolis. Against Wallace.”
          “Why I became…?” Midna trailed off. “You mean… why I fought.”
          “Yeah.” Nicholas released her. “Up until that point you always seemed to avoid fighting. In the gym, however…”
          Midna blushed and ducked her head now that he wasn’t holding her anymore. “I avoid it because it causes pain, and through my visions I see enough pain already that I can not control. But ever since meeting you, my sight has been quiet. The pain I was powerless to stop is nowhere to be found. And so… in those few moments,” she said, slowly looking back up to him, “I felt no hesitation in inflicting pain for you.”
          Nicholas’ eyebrows rose. “I… see.”
          “You are my god, my goddess in human skin. I will stand at your side until the day I die.” Midna kept her eyes locked on him for a few moments before a teasing smile twitched at the corner of her mouth. “But until that day, Master, can we have fun?”
          Nicholas began chuckling and Midna joined in, squealing when he dove at her and started tickling. Her question had cracked the serious mood she had been casting over the two and now laughter took its place, continuing when Nicholas got a bit too handsy and Midna tripped. She fell to the ground, Nicholas falling on top of her, her laughter trailing off as her breathing began to grow heavier, and Nicholas’ smile similarly shrinking a bit as he stared down at her naked body. Finally, though, he kissed her, and Midna kissed back, and when Nicholas pulled back he saw a firm devotion in the Absol’s eyes. He’d earned a new priestess of sorts, apparently. Miyuki would be thrilled.
          “I just cleaned up, too,” Nicholas murmured.
          Midna took his head in her hands. “You wanted to spend time with me,” she whispered. “I want to spend time with you. And if I am allowed to beg, then please, grant me a memory that will take the place of the shadowy morning we first met.” Her eyes shone. “Let today be the day I meet my true Master.”
          Nicholas gently pulled his head from her hands and Midna lay there as he vanished from her sight for a moment. Then with a gasp her fingers curled and her back arched, feeling Nicholas’ tongue running over her nipples.
          “You’re not the first to devote themselves to me,” Nicholas whispered the next time he came up for air. “After today, I will take you to meet them.”
          Midna’s joyful screams echoed across the island, turning heads as she basked in the attention of her Master.
          Afterwards Midna absolutely glowed as the two toured the island, her hand wrapped in his. They got a few looks due to her nudity but Midna held her head high whenever she got a glance, inviting more eyes to witness her and the bond she shared with him.
          “It’s getting a bit late.” Nicholas shaded his eyes as he looked at the slowly setting sun. “Let’s check out this space center and then head to the gym.”
          Midna nearly skipped as she walked beside him. They stopped at the white rock outside, a kind of memorial, before heading inside. Nicholas was looking at the various displays when he heard Midna make a surprised noise.
          He turned to see her staring at another Absol not too far away. The other girl similarly stared until her eyes flicked to Nicholas and her face lit up. “Topolski!”
          Nicholas blinked. That had been Abby’s voice, but the Absol grinning at him had white hair.
          “Is that… Abby?” Nicholas asked, and when the Absol laughed he realized it was indeed Joseph’s Absol. “Your hair! I didn’t recognize you without the blonde.”
          “Well, sir… someone once told me I’d look better with it natural,” Abby replied with a laugh. “Master, look who it is!”
          The man next to Abby turned and grinned at Nicholas. “Hello!”
          Nicholas walked over to shake Joseph’s hand. “Good afternoon Mr. President. What brings you out to Mossdeep?”
          “Reviewing some projects Devon is funding.” Joseph made his excuses to the two men he had been talking to and turned his full attention to Nicholas. “What about you? Here to see the twins?”
          “Twins?”
          “Tate and Liza, the twin gym leaders,” Joseph explained. “I heard from my son that you’d left Sootopolis a few days ago.”
          Nicholas chuckled. “Then seeing me here isn’t really a surprise, is it.”
          Joseph chuckled back. “Sharp as ever. I came because I wanted to meet you before you finished your business in the region.”
          “Oh?” Nicholas frowned. “You could have always sent a message.”
          “I’m old fashioned. I prefer letters and face-to-face meetings.” Joseph nodded at Abby. “I’ll get straight to the point. I’m a lot older than I look. Aged by the use of that power we’ve discussed before. I can no longer harness it.” He smiled. “The ring Steven gave you was once mine.”
          “Oh. About that.” Nicholas dug into a pocket and withdrew the Key Stone. “I’ve inherited the will of the Draconid people. I… no longer need it, if you want it back.”
          “I suppose as a memento.” Joseph accepted the ring. “I still am unable to use it. And because of that, Abby's stone is as useless to us as any other gemstone."
          Nicholas looked to the Absol. "Steven also told you about Midna."
          "He did, sir." Abby drew her collar back to reveal that her neck was bare. "I do not like giving up such a precious thing, but its appeal has faded over the years, just as President Stone’s power has. Perhaps they faded together. I would be honored if you used it in my stead, Midna.”
          Midna slowly reached out to accept the pendant Abby procured. She stared at the setting for a while before bowing. “I will honor it, sister.”
          “I believe it is in good hands, Abby,” Joseph said quietly. Nicholas nodded as Midna searched for a place on her body to stow the gemstone. “Now then. You have a gym to challenge, Champion.”
          Nicholas smirked. “I do, but one question first. How did you know I’d come here? Why not wait for me at the gym itself?”
          Joseph chuckled. “Because you are a man of science, just like me. I knew this place would appeal to you. If I had been wrong, Abby would not have minded keeping her necklace.”
          “One last test, huh.”
          Joseph firmly shook Nicholas’ hand. “Of sorts. I’m confident in our future, thanks to you.”
          Nicholas nodded. “I won’t let you down.”
          Nicholas pushed into the Mossdeep Gym with Midna still at his side. According to the research Kalmiya had done on the walk here, the gym leaders would be challenging him to a two v two double battle. Since this gym specialized in the Psychic-type, Midna was an obvious choice. And the second would be…
          Marin appeared. She seemed to be stuck in the moment from earlier for a second before she blinked and shook her head. “What’s up?”
          “You and Midna will be fighting today. Start talking, form strategy.” Nicholas looked around. There were towering statues everywhere and they felt like they were watching him. A suitable environment for a psychic gym. “It’ll be a battle with both of you in the arena at the same time.”
          “Oooh, that makes things interesting,” Marin purred. “I watched what you did in Sootopolis, Midna.” Her shark teeth glinted when she grinned. “I just wish you’d shown that to me sooner. We could have been great friends.”
          Midna nervously pushed her hair away from her face, revealing the makeshift earring she and Nicholas had fashioned Abby’s Mega Stone into. “We can still be friends?”
          “True!” Marin slapped Midna on the back with a laugh. “Let’s tear Nicholas’ enemies to shreds. Together.”
          Nicholas rolled his eyes and gestured the two forwards. “There might be a battle or two before we find the leaders, so stay focused.”
          There were. Many battles, forcing Nicholas to use his entire harem, and the last came as he had no other choice but bring out Midna and Marin instead of letting them be fresh for the leaders. It was against two tamers that commanded an Alakazam and Gardevoir. Midna and Marin barely broke a sweat.
          “Two Dark-types.”
          “In our gym?”
          Nicholas stepped into the arena. Across from him he could see a man and woman with nearly identical appearances. They reminded him somewhat of Latios and Latias. “I use what I have to win. If you don’t like them, you should have made a rule banning them.”
          The two smiled. “Why do that?” one asked.
          “When we can punish the overconfident?” the other finished.
          Nicholas chuckled. “I’ve met leaders like you before. I like the attitude.” He nodded when they both bowed. “You’re twin psychics. I’d assume the act you’re putting on isn’t an act. Your minds are linked, aren’t they.”
          “An excellent conclusion,” the man, who had to be Tate, said.
          “We think and fight as one,” the woman, Liza, said.
          “Well, good. We’re on an even playing field.” Nicholas smirked when the two looked confused. “Kalmiya. Are you ready?”
          “To command beside you, Master?” the Porygon asked gleefully. “I would love to.”
          “Marin, Midna! Let’s show these two that we are not overconfident.” He watched two pokegirls materialized across from them. One was familiar, a Lunatone, he thought, one of the girls he’d watched compete in the Verdanturf contest hall. The other was similar to the Lunatone but seemed to be a complete opposite. Her skin was a dark, dark tan, almost looking as if she had been charred by the sun, and her hair was a mix of bright yellow and orange. Both seemed to glow with light.
          “This is a 2v2, no substitutions, TKO fight!” The referee raised their hand. “Three! Two! One! BEGIN!”
          It was over almost before it had begun.
          The Solrock and Lunatone drifted together and one began forming a barrier of light, the other a hard energy barrier that would protect the two from any incoming attacks. Midna and Marin didn’t give a shit. In a motion that they must have come up with since arriving in the gym Marin grabbed Midna’s arm, her other hand pointing back as her water jets began to fire. Instead of launching the Sharpedo forwards she used them to spin, building up momentum before launching Midna at high speed towards the two pokegirls.
          As Midna flew her shadows began to appear and she used the slight spin Marin had impacted on her to begin whirling, black blades joining her horn and tail as she became a missile of darkness that shattered the forming defenses and eviscerated the gym leader’s duo instantly.
          Still, the barriers had done their job and the two whirled on her, intent to return the gaping wounds across their bodies, before the Lunatone vanished from sight with a scream.
          The Solrock staggered back as the wall of water that had engulfed her partner blew apart to reveal Marin approaching. She raised her hand, preparing to fire something, and Marin mimicked her. The Solrock’s eyes bugged out when the Sharpedo grabbed her face and began to squeeze but before Marin could really get started two recall beams lanced out and saved the two Rock-types.
          Marin turned to help Midna to her feet as Tate and Liza shrugged in unison. “When a tamer with Dark-types,” Tate said, “displays teamwork as great as ours,” Liza continued, “we don’t stand a chance,” Tate finished.
          “Come. The Mind Badge is yours,” Liza called.
          Nicholas walked past the two laughing pokegirls to accept the badge. That made eight. Somehow in the middle of this insane journey he’d collected another League’s badges.
          “Tell us, what did you mean?” Liza asked. “That the playing field was even,” Tate explained.
          “You have two minds working together. I have a Porygon who acts as my tactician.”
          The twins looked at each other before beginning to laugh. “Then we were at a disadvantage,” Tate called, “for our minds are closer to one,” Liza continued. “A Porygon.” “A rare gift.”
          Nicholas blinked. “Huh.”
          “Now go, Indigo Champion!” Tate called. “Our Champion awaits,” Liza finished.
          Nicholas nodded and called for Marin and Midna to join him. The three emerged into a sky covered in beautiful purples and reds from the setting sun.
          Nicholas turned to the south. Somewhere that direction, just out of sight, was Ever Grande. Home to the Hoenn elite four. Where Steven was likely waiting.
          He took a deep breath. “So close. Just a few more obstacles.” He recalled Midna and smiled at Marin. “Feel like another swim?”
          Marin was struggling with how to retort when Nicholas’ pokedex rang.
          “Hm? Hello?” Nicholas frowned at the caller ID. It was coming from one of the pokedexes he’d left with his harem but the device hadn’t identified the caller. “Who is this?”
          His confusion vanished when Zinnia appeared in the camera. “Master Nicholas.”
          “Zinnia. How was your flight?” Nicholas was intending on making small talk but Zinnia brushed his comment aside and leaned very, very close to the camera. Uncomfortably so.
          “Mew’s daughter is not here.”
          Nicholas froze. “What?”
          “She is gone. The pokegirls here say she vanished with Celebi over a month ago.” Zinnia looked up at something outside of the camera’s range. “Celebi, Celine, refuses to answer my questions at all.”
          “Oh, Kali,” Nicholas breathed. He hadn’t been there for her. She’d given in. “I’m on my way, right now. Make sure Celine doesn’t vanish in the meantime.”
