Chapter 21

Rebirth

As the large doors swung open Nicholas saw incredibly complex machinery filling a room the size of an entire floor of the hideout. Thick conduits, some as wide as he was, ran from floor to ceiling and all across the walls, wires branching out of them at regular intervals to connect to the components that surrounded a central computer. Dozens of monitors displayed information, from timers to gauges and everything in between.

“What the hell is this?” Nicholas asked. His foot was in the air, his first step into the room already in motion when Ryuko screamed.

         “MASTER!”

Nicholas was bowled sideways and he coughed, doubling up around the impact point and struggling to breathe. Another scream forced him to look up and he grimaced. “Ryuko-“

Ryuko’s uninjured wing twitched and she hissed, forcing a thorny vine away from her neck before forming a dagger that she used to cut it down. Miyuki rushed to his side as the others joined Ryuko to face down a number of grinning figures, giving the Scizor time to recover from the sneak attack she had taken in his place.

“So our intruder makes it all the way to the end.” A female voice from further into the room drew Nicholas’ attention and a moment later a woman in uniform stepped into view. “I don’t see Petrel with you, so I commend you on opening that door.”

“Easy,” Nicholas rasped, forcing himself up as Miyuki fretted. “He gave me the password.”

“Mmm. It wouldn’t have helped you,” Ariana replied. “I am Ariana. Executive of Team Rocket.”

“Executive, eh?” Nicholas felt his breathing returning to normal. “So you’re not just some Admin?”

“Oh, it’s only an interim position. There will be no need for Executives once Giovanni returns.” Ariana waved her hand dismissively. “Regardless, as interim leader, I must make sure to… dispose of you.” Her eyes narrowed. “You’ve caused quite enough damage today.”

Nicholas cursed softly when an entire squad of grunts came into view. “I appear to be outnumbered.”

“Quite right.” Ariana smiled. “However strong you may be, with this many tamers you’ll have no chance of winning. And don’t think about retreating either; by now, reinforcements will have arrived. There’s nowhere left to run.”

         “I couldn’t agree more.”

Ariana’s eyes widened at the voice and Nicholas whirled to see a familiar man standing in the doorway. “Lance!”

The dragon tamer looked around the mob of Rockets with a bored expression. “Well, you managed not to die, Topolski. I must say I’m impressed.” Heavy footsteps could be heard before Rika stepped into view. Her wings were visible but not spread and Nicholas wondered for a moment why she wasn’t going for more intimidation before an identical pokegirl stepped up beside her. “Sharra may have retired, but her sisters will be more than enough to help finish the job.”

Nicholas slowly began to smile. “Rika. Kyrie.”

“Whoever told you that was wise,” Lance said. “It’s true. I didn’t deserve my power.” He turned to look at Nicholas. “I wish to change that.”

“L-Lance?” Ariana’s eyes flicked to Nicholas. “Topolski? Dragons.” She flicked back to the two Dragonite and swallowed nervously. “It doesn’t matter! No matter who your accomplice is. Who- who you are. You’re still outnumbered!”

“Good.” Lance smiled as the grunts began muttering amongst themselves. “It’s always more satisfying that way.”

         “GET THEM!”

Red filled the air as dozens of pokeballs activated and in the chaos Nicholas immediately started yelling for his harem to fall back. Rika and Kyrie simultaneously unfurled their wings, their roars echoing through the room as the two sisters dove into the mass of enemy pokegirls.

“Why do you tell them to retreat?” Nicholas felt a hand on his shoulder as Lance held him up. “Will you trust your Master to me, Eevee?”

         Miyuki stared at him. “Nicholas?”

Nicholas glanced at her before turning to Lance. “Why?”

“Because I was wrong,” Lance replied. “The fact that you stand here in front of me proves it. But you never should have had to prove anything to me.” He gazed into the roiling battle. “I lost my way. Greed, arrogance. I became like the dragons I tame.” He shook his head. “No, not like them. Worse than them. I became like a wild dragon, so… swallowed by my own pride that I forgot who I’m meant to be.”

         “A dragon tamer?”

“A Champion,” Lance replied. “Perhaps I don’t deserve it. Not with the way I’ve treated you today. But until we decide otherwise, I need to act like one.”

Nicholas chuckled and clasped Lance’s hand. “Hey. I never acted like one either.”

“Hm.” Lance smiled. “Well, Champion? Will you join me in battle?”

“Gladly, Champion,” Nicholas replied, turning back to where his harem was fighting while retreating. “Miyuki. I’ll be fine with Lance. Your harem needs their Alpha.”

Miyuki nodded and ran forwards. The Arbok beleaguering Hana screamed when chunks of the wall peppered her body, smacking her back and knocking her unconscious against the floor. Hana whirled, grinning happily when she saw Miyuki approaching. “Alpha!”

The others turned when Miyuki reached them. “No more retreat.” She fixed the harem in an icy stare. “Orders have changed. We attack!”

Ariana’s eyes darted around the battlefield. With a set of new battle cries the intruder’s harem had fallen on the only group rallying against the Dragonite. They would lose. There was no way to win this. Not against these pokegirls.

She slunk back, not even looking for her own harem in the brawl. She had something else on her mind. Moving to the main computer she began rapidly typing commands. The plan had always been to abandon the base, but she needed to retrieve…

Rika’s head turned when new screens lit up, static streaming inwards. Towards the master terminal. She saw Ariana and growled. “Sister!”

Kyrie also turned, trusting the ferocious group that had joined her to watch her back. “Sister?”

“The human! She is doing something.”

Kyrie’s wings unfurled and she launched above the fight. A few pokegirls tried to shoot her down but Kyrie roared, fire washing over them and forcing her attackers to evade. Ariana twisted back when she heard the roar, paling when she saw Kyrie bearing down on her. No! I need-“ she whirled back, jamming something into a socket. “No! STOP HER!”

She was grabbing at the object when Kyrie arrived. Ariana was forced to dive away, leaving her prize behind as she fled from Kyrie’s attack. Kyrie herself was stopped when a bird pokegirl appeared in her face, the same dark feathers displaying her relation to the copycat in Petrel’s office but a much more well endowed frame and majestic appearance indicating her as an evolved form. By the time Kyrie was stepping past the unconscious bird, Ariana had vanished.

The rest of the battle didn’t take long once Kyrie broke through. The grunts, now pincered between two Dragonite and with any stragglers picked off by Nicholas’ harem, quickly surrendered. Just as Ariana had promised reinforcements rushed in a few minutes after the fight was over – but not hers. Tamers from the RTF took over the room, quickly and efficiently securing the grunts and their pokegirls until the only ones left were Nicholas, Lance, and their respective harems.

Lance walked up to the main computer with a low whistle. “What in the world is all this?”

“The control room,” Nicholas replied. “I’d bet that whatever signal they were broadcasting is created here.”

“This thing looks like it takes an incredible amount of power to operate,” Lance mused. “Where’s it coming from? Mahogany Town is tiny. They don’t have any power plants like we do in Kanto.”

         “Generators in the hideout?”

“Silent ones, if they are,” Lance replied. “Kyrie, what was that Admin playing with?” He tsked. “Shame she snuck away.”

“This, Master,” Kyrie replied, pointing at what Ariana had inserted into the computer. The device had been knocked askew when Ariana tried to remove it. “She wanted to take it with her.”

“In that case it might have some information we want.” Lance removed the device and inspected it. “Looks like a data stick. Maybe she was trying to back something up?” He glanced at Nicholas. “That port should accept the universal connection from a pokedex. Feel like sacrificing yours?”

         Nicholas spluttered. “What? Sacrifice?”

“If the connection fries your ‘dex I’d rather it be yours, not mine.” Lance turned back to the computer. “My ‘dex has quite a bit of classified material on it. I’m not networking it into anything Team Rocket has touched.”

“Yeah, actually that makes sense,” Nicholas grumbled. “Fine. I’ll see what happens.”

“While you do, I’m going to inspect this machine of theirs.” Lance wandered around the structure. “All this for a radio signal…”

Nicholas found his pokedex’s cord and plugged it in. For a few moments nothing happened but he jumped when an alarm suddenly blasted from the device. “What the-!”

The main screen on Team Rocket’s computer abruptly flashed and Nicholas covered his eyes when sparks shot from the seams. Seconds later it was dead. And his pokedex as well.

Lance poked his head back around. “You all right over there?”

“Yeah, it fried my fucking pokedex.” Nicholas jabbed at the screen and growled in frustration. “Fried ITSELF too. Probably a security measure.” He glared daggers at Lance. “You owe me a new ‘dex.”

“Trust me. Much better yours than mine,” Lance chuckled.

“Or, you know, I could have not done anything.”

Lance was about to reply when the machine creaked. With the controls fried pneumatic hinges disengaged, slowly bleeding air as massive metal panels sunk into the ground.

         “Oh. My. God.”

Nicholas stared in shock. Glass tubes encircled the machine, capped with some sort of metal apparatus. But what horrified him was what was inside.

Six pokegirls floated in some sort of fluid. Every few seconds one would twitch, sending electricity skittering across the glass, to be drawn up towards the metal caps where… he turned away. “Batteries. Oh my god they’re using pokegirls as batteries.”

Lance slowly stepped closer to the tubes. “Electrode. No wonder they were able to power this massive thing. Those six probably output more power than some cities.”

“It doesn’t matter how much electricity they can shoot, they’re being used as living fucking batteries!”

“How are we going to get them out?” Lance looked around. “I don’t see any releases on these tubes. If we break them will they be okay?”

“I- I can’t handle this.” Nicholas kept his gaze averted. “This is just such raw… evil. I can’t.” He finally looked back. “What do we do?”

“I’ll get some medics down here. We’ll have to break them out.” Lance winced. “I’m sure they’re conscious. We’ll probably have to knock them out, too. To be safe.”

“I can’t,” Nicholas repeated. “I’m not going to force any of my girls to attack helpless pokegirls.”

“It’s fine. You’ve done more than enough.” Lance sighed. “I’ll take care of them. It’s the least I can do.”

Nicholas waved in the harem’s general direction. “Come on.”

“Nicholas.” Lance walked up to him when Nicholas stopped. “What are you going to do?”

Nicholas kept his eyes on the door. “Archer is still out there.”

“The task force could use your help.”

“No. I… I made my harem a promise.” Nicholas did his best to force the image of the Electrode from his mind. “We need to do some self reflection so we’re taking a break. Maybe a really long one. You have my number; if anything happens, call.”

“Can I make a suggestion?” Lance asked. “Head to Blackthorn. Meet my family. I may have lost my way, but they’re who taught me. If you’re willing to prove yourself, they’ll teach you too.”

Nicholas turned slightly so he could look at Lance. “You haven’t lost your way, dragon master. You just forgot it for a while.” Ryuko’s words came to him and he reached out to take Lance’s hand. “They rely on us as we are. So be your best.”

Lance returned the grip. “Thank you, Topolski.” He waited a moment before nodding. “Please. Meet my family. I think it would be good for you.”

“Even though I’m not a Blackthorn?”

“You may not have been born one,” Lance replied, “but today you proved that you are better than one.”

Nicholas slowly nodded back. “I will.”

“Travel safe.” Lance released him, waiting for Nicholas to leave before turning back to the Electrode.

Rika watched him walk back. “Master.”

“You don’t have to say a word, Rika.” Lance gazed at the imprisoned pokegirls but his eyes looked through them. “I think it’s time I went home again too.”

Kyrie smiled along with her sister. “Yes, Master.”

Nicholas walked through the crowds and entered the pokecenter, handing the nurse on duty his pokegirls before wandering over to take a seat and wait. It wasn’t like he could do much though. He pulled out his pokedex, trying and failing to turn it on with a sigh. It had power – he could see the battery indicator. It just was well and truly fried.

The feeling of horror had been universal as he and the harem had escaped Team Rocket’s hideout. He hadn’t even asked for anyone’s permission before recalling them, and with how quickly the recalls had gone, he didn’t think any of them would have argued. It was sickening. Seeing everything that Team Rocket did, first hand. The abuses and exploitation of pokegirls.

He needed to get his mind off of it. While he was here he could at least use the center’s computers. Changing seats he logged in, glancing through the information before navigating to a map.

Blackthorn sat on the eastern side of Johto, nestled in between mountains. It looked like there were only a few ways to reach the secluded city on foot – luckily, the major road listed began in Mahogany Town. They’d be able to head there whenever they wanted.

There was a gym here too. Nicholas settled back with a sigh. Did he want to challenge them? Maybe not so soon after Team Rocket. But those battles had really strengthened the harem – Miyuki was fighting, Sera had evolved, and they had Hana on the team. Maybe they were ready for their next badge.

Nicholas pulled up his tamer profile to double check his collection and frowned. Everything had been mixed up. He hadn’t earned the Plain Badge first; that was Whitney’s gym. He’d earned that… third? And why was his harem all jumbled up? Miyuki should be at the head; she was even selected as the Alpha, but placed down in the center of the five.

Whatever. Probably due to his pokedex being fried. Nicholas glanced down where the dead computer hung on his belt and snorted. It really wasn’t important.

Well. He got up when the nurse called his name. He should at least ask the harem what they thought about a gym battle.

         “No.”

Nicholas sighed. “One yes. Four no.” He looked around. “Sorry, Hana. You’re out voted.”

Hana shrugged. “I didn’t really want to, Master. I just would rather fight than not.” She grinned when a few of the others shot her disgruntled looks. “Having a Master again-“

“We know. You’re excited and full of energy.” Nessa rubbed her face. “For some reason Hana I think you’d be like that with or without Nicholas.”

         Hana giggled. “Maybe.”

“I think it’s a much better idea to take a break,” Nessa continued, lowering her hand and looking at Nicholas. “You’re tired and stressed. We all are.”

Nicholas nodded. “We’ll head to Blackthorn then. It’s a mountain path; there will be a lot of wild pokegirls, but nothing like what we’ve gone through lately.”

         “Lead the way, Master.”

The mountain trail took them straight to the side of the mountain and Nicholas followed it through a few turns to a cave entrance. “A cave?” He groaned but looked for the sign. “Yup. Right there. ‘Ice Path to Blackthorn City’.” He sighed. “Ice Path. Great. Anyone need some extra clothing before we go in? Now we know why so many people in Mahogany sold cold weather gear…”

“Hana might,” Nessa muttered, glancing at the nude Ampharos. “I’ll be fine, I can regulate my body temperature…”

“I can bundle up with my wings, Master Nicholas,” Sera replied, demonstrating by folding all four of her wings around her body. “Sera has her armor. Miyuki her fur.”

         Nicholas turned to Hana. “Hana?”

The Ampharos looked nervous but she rallied quickly. “I don’t need clothes.”

Nicholas cracked a smile. “We’ll see about that.”

The first step into the cave blasted them with cold air even with no ice in sight. Hana immediately began shivering but forced herself to stop when Nicholas looked at her. “I’M FINE!”

         “Hana. We’ll get you something.”

“No, please, Master.” Hana wrapped her arms around her torso. “I- I can’t wear anything. It hurts.”

         Nicholas looked surprised. “It… hurts?”

“My hair.” Hana kept her eyes locked on the ground, using her gaze as a focus to keep from shivering. “It would rub, and shock me… It always did. Before I evolved.” She sniffed. “Now there’s so much more…”

“An Ampharos. Who’s afraid of shocking herself.” Nicholas pulled his shirt off, ignoring the cold chill and offering it to her. “Will you try wearing this, at least?” He smiled when Hana stared at him. “For me. I worry when I see you cold.”

Hana slowly accepted the shirt, beginning to shiver slightly with her arms pulled away from her body. Nicholas was finding a long sleeved shirt for himself when she finally poked her head in, gingerly easing the fabric over her head and down her hair. True to her word static sparks began to fly immediately and she stiffened when a few sunk into her neck.

Nicholas looked at her when Hana made a surprised noise. “You okay?”

Hana slid the shirt down a bit more, waiting for the sparks created to dissipate before poking her head through and looking at him. “I… I felt them, but the electricity-“ she abruptly yanked the shirt down, letting out a yelp when a cascade of electricity crackled across her body. “It doesn’t hurt!”

Nicholas held back from embracing her and chose to grin instead. “That’s great!”

Hana twisted, pulling her hair free to another shower of sparks before laughing happily. “I’m not cold!”

“Yeah, I think your electricity is to thank for that, not my shirt,” Nicholas noted, watching as more sparks buzzed across her body. “but it’s not hurting you?”

“No! It’s not!” Hana happily latched onto him and Nicholas’ teeth clacked together when a stray shock clenched his jaw. “Oh, thank you, Master!”

“I think- It’s best if you still don’t wear many clothes,” Nicholas got out, forcing himself free of the sparking Ampharos. “You’re discharging randomly.”

Hana purpled and slid back. “I’m so sorry Master.”

“No, it’s fine.” Nicholas grimaced, rolling his shoulders and neck to relieve the pressure from his impromptu shock therapy. “The other Ampharos I’d met did the same thing. It’s natural.”

Hana sank into a bow. Comically, as her hair levitated free from gravity above her. “Even still, Master, I have injured you,” she whimpered. “I am so sorry.”

“I forgive you.” Nicholas winced but stroked her head, enduring the few sparks so that he could comfort Hana. “Now come on. We’ve got a cave to explore.”

The air certainly got colder as they traversed deeper into the cave. Unlike the last cold cave Nicholas had been in, however, this one had reason to be. Ice covered every surface as they descended and wild pokegirls were abundant. Not all wanted to fight, but seeing them at all put him at ease. There wasn’t an Articuno waiting for them at the bottom.

The cave opened into the first large area they had seen after about half an hour of walking and Nicholas breathed in the cold air. Fresh air, he realized, even though they were far underground. It must be because of the ice – nothing remained in the air for long before bumping against something and freezing to it.

“Master Nicholas, look.” Sera pointed ahead of them. “There’s someone down here.”

Nicholas walked forwards with a wave. “Hello!”

One of the two figures turned, a man in a long white scarf and blue coat waving back. “Hello! Travelers?”

“On our way to Blackthorn,” Nicholas replied, walking up and taking in the mammoth figure beside the man. The girl was at least seven feet tall, if not more, and had no visible clothes. Instead her body was covered in long brown hair, with two large tusks stretching from either side of her mouth. “How about you?”

“Waiting for a traveler on their way to Blackthorn,” the man replied with a smile. “Waiting for you, Nicholas Topolski.”

         Nicholas blinked. “You know me?”

“I know what you did.” The man turned back to the cave. “My only regret is that you had to do it in the first place.” He sighed sadly. “I had hoped, when I heard you were traveling Johto, that I could welcome you to my town with open arms. Instead I was rudely forced to close them. But here you are anyways.” He turned back. “My arms were closed, my hands tied. You released those bonds and freed us.”

“Team Rocket.” Nicholas shrugged. “I just did what was right.”

“I know. You always have.” The man shook his head. “I truly hoped our meeting would be different.”

         “Who are you?”

“Pryce,” the man replied. “Leader of the Mahogany Gym.”

“You’re not the first gym leader to be beaten by Team Rocket,” Nicholas replied with a smile. “It’s nothing to be ashamed of.”

“It is to me. Forty years have I been a tamer. Forty years. And I couldn’t chase off a band of thugs.” Pryce sighed. “It took a better tamer than I.”

         “I didn’t do it alone.”

“No?” Pryce looked at his harem. “No, you had your pokegirls, didn’t you. Spoken as a true tamer.”

Nicholas had meant Lance but he didn’t correct Pryce. “So you were just waiting for me to say thanks, right? How did you know I would come this way?”

“There’s only one road to Blackthorn,” Pryce replied. “The southern road is too steep, impassable going up. Sooner or later you would have come here.”

Nicholas blinked. “How long have you been waiting?”

“Oh, only a few hours,” Pryce chuckled. “Thankfully you came this way first.”

“Yeah.” Nicholas shrugged. “Well, I did what I had to. I hope your town can recover from them.”

         “It will.”

Nicholas frowned. Pryce had held out something in his fist. “What’s that?”

“My badge.” Pryce opened his hand to reveal a piece of glistening white and blue metal. “Awarded to a worthy tamer.”

“But I haven’t even fought you,” Nicholas protested. “Isn’t that the point? I’m supposed to prove myself in a gym battle?”

“Take it,” Pryce replied. “I know who you are. This is nothing but a piece of metal to you.” He offered his hand again. “Won’t you take it? As a reminder of the great deed you’ve done for my town.”

Nicholas finally reached out to accept the badge. “One day I’d like to battle you anyways, sir.”

Pryce chuckled. “Bah. I’m not that old yet. Still young enough to school whippersnappers like you.”

Nicholas smiled. “One day soon, then.”

“Eh.” Pryce turned to his Mamoswine. “I’m getting a bit cold, Ino.” When the big girl cuddled up to him he chuckled. “I meant it’s time to leave.”

         “Stay safe.”

Pryce waved back, his Mamoswine still draping her long coat over him as they walked. “You as well, Champion.”

Nicholas was studying the badge as the harem clustered together. “Thank you for not refusing his gift.” Nicholas looked up to see Nessa watching him. “Sometimes it means a lot more than the object.”

Nicholas looked down at the teardrop pendant she had worn ever since receiving it. “We know that well.” He forced the badge compartment on his pokedex open and dropped it in. “Well. I guess that’s one less badge to worry about.”

“To Blackthorn then, Master?” Ryuko asked. “I am excited to meet the Dragon Clan.”

         Nicholas nodded. “To Blackthorn.”

They were walking away from the large sheet of ice Pryce had been standing by when Nicholas heard a shout. Turning back he watched as someone floundered across the ice, billowing clothes flailing through the air as the figure scrambled…

“What the-“ Nicholas ran back, catching himself before he could slip himself. “HEY! What are you doing here?!”

The kimono girl glanced up. “Ah! I have been discovered.” She attempted to give Nicholas a smile before whooping, sprawling on her ass with a thud. “Ow. Hello, Nicholas.”

“Again, what are you doing here?” Nicholas rubbed the bridge of his nose when the woman tried to get up but her strange wooden shoes, finding no purchase on the ice, flew out from underneath her again. “And do you need some help?”

“Ehm… perhaps.” The woman shot him a nervous smile. “I was just here… ah, enjoying the… ice.”

“Following me. Still.” Nicholas shook his head. “Hold on. I’ll come get you.”

Once he had retrieved the woman he noticed Miyuki staring at her with a perfectly blank expression. Remembering her history he stepped between her and the recovering kimono girl. “So. Are you good? Need any medicine? Broken anything?”

“No, I’m fine.” The woman straightened up with a smile. “You truly are kind, Nicholas. Thank you for your assistance.”

“I wasn’t going to leave you out on that ice,” Nicholas scoffed. “I’d hope nobody would.”

“Even still. You sprang into action yourself. Thank you, so much.” Her eyes flicked past him. “Hello, sister.”

“You are not my sister,” Miyuki replied flatly. “This is my family. Not you.”

The woman tsked. “One day you’ll return to us. We will forgive you, even then.”

Nicholas held out his hand and was preparing to speak when Miyuki shoved past it. “I hope I never am subjected to your, ‘forgiveness’,” she hissed. “I do not need it, nor do I want it.”

“That will not be necessary for us to give it,” the woman replied with the same smile she had held in every encounter with Nicholas. It was as if the powder mask on her face was a real one. “I believe in you, future-high-priestess.”

“Future? FUTURE?” Miyuki’s fur was standing up on her tail and ears. “Why wait?” She turned to Nicholas and he could see the raw anger in her eyes. “Master. Who are you?”

         “Potentially-“ the woman started.

“The tamer of legend,” Nicholas replied immediately. “A man who walks among the eternal ones, who bonds with them and holds their hearts. And you, Miyuki, are my. High. Priestess.”

The kimono girl’s eyes widened, breaking her mask for the first time. “You wouldn’t dare.”

“Wouldn’t I?” Nicholas looked from Miyuki to the woman. “You already know of Mewtwo and I. You wouldn’t be so interested otherwise. If I am this legendary tamer, I have every right to claim Miyuki as my own.”

“You DARE!” The woman’s face twisted in rage. “You dare steal our Mistress’ favored servant?!?” Her eyes narrowed. “You will answer for this heresy.”

“I look forward to it.” Nicholas stepped aside as the woman stormed off. “I have many things to discuss with your… ‘Mistress’.”

The woman glanced back, her face twisting before she whirled and ran from the cave.

“Fool.” Nicholas snorted and turned back to Miyuki. “I’m sorry that you had to see her, Miyuki, whoever she is.”

“That was Miki.” Miyuki stared out over the ice. “Stupid. Why would she come here? Serves her right to fall. You should have never saved her.”

“Hey.” Nicholas threw an arm around her shoulders. “She’s gone now.”

“Maybe.” Miyuki breathed out. The tension wasn’t leaving her, even with Nicholas’ touch. “But she was right about one thing. I’ll have to crawl back to them some day. If I want to evolve properly.” She hissed angrily. “PROPERLY! Even when it’s about ME they make it about THEM. ‘If you don’t evolve in a ceremony you’re not fit to serve the eternal ones.’ It’s so STUPID!”

Nicholas grabbed her. “Miyuki. It’s okay.”

“It is NOT.” Miyuki shook him off and whirled to face him. “It’s big and grand and important, but I’ve realized. It’s just a trap. All of it, it’s control, it’s there to keep the Eevee in line. It’s never for their benefit. They evolve when the convent wants them to. Not when they do.” Tears dripped down her cheeks. “I want to! I want to be strong! To protect you, to serve as YOUR High Priestess!” Her shoulders shook when the sobs started. “But all I can think about is ceremony.”

“I told you before.” Nicholas put his hands back on her shoulders. “Whenever you were ready, I just wanted you to tell me, and I would do whatever you need to make an evolution happen. You want ceremony?” He looked around. “Well, your Master is ready for one. And you have sisters waiting to support you. We can do it right here.”

         “H-here?”

“Is there a better place? On this spot you defied the convent. On this spot, with them as our witness, I claimed you, Miyuki. As mine. What better place to free you of their influence. Forever.”

Miyuki stared at him through the tears. The tension was… releasing. Her sobs slowed, then stopped. “You don’t know what to do.”

“Why should we follow their ceremony in the first place?” Nicholas scoffed. “We’re different. You can follow mine.”

Miyuki took a shaky breath. He was right. Like always, her Master was right. “You have a ceremony?”

“Of course I do. I’m the legendary tamer, aren’t I?” Nicholas grinned but internally he was panicking. He needed to make this special for her and he had no idea what to do!

Well… his grin reached his eyes. There was something pretty special he could give her. “But you need to remember; this ceremony won’t be yours alone.”

Miyuki slowly smiled. “Planning on more Eevee?”

“Oh, I just mean in general. The one for the Eevee in the convent wasn’t unique, right?” When Miyuki shook her head he spread his arms. “See!”

“Fine,” Miyuki said with a giggle. Nicholas was happy to see her smiling again, all trace of her tears gone. “To evolve though, I might need an elemental stone.”

Nicholas’ smile wavered. “Ah. I don’t carry any of those.”

“Might,” Miyuki repeated. “I… don’t know how I want to yet.” Her own smile faded as her eyes unfocused. “Eevee can be… anything. It’s why Ecruteak reveres us. We’re blank slates, ready to be molded by the eternal ones.” She sighed. “Usually you’d go on a spiritual journey, finding the element you resonate with, but…”

Nicholas waited as she trailed off. “But?”

Miyuki slowly turned to the ice sheet that Miki had been trapped on. “But…”

         Nicholas followed her gaze. “Miyuki?”

“…it fought her.” Miyuki stepped onto the ice as assuredly as if it were stone. “A member of the convent. My jailers.” Nicholas watched her slowly walk to the center of the cave. Miyuki stretched her hand out, caressing a stalagmite of ice that jutted from the sheet. “Ice.”

“Do I need to come out there with you?” Nicholas called.

Miyuki shook herself and turned back, but something stopped her. Her fingers wormed into a crack on the ice, digging towards an unearthly cold until she clenched her hand and tore a chunk away. There, in the heart of the stalagmite, was a perfectly white shard. She carefully extricated it, her breath misting in the extreme cold that it radiated. Even as she held it in her hand the shard didn’t melt.

Nicholas helped her back onto the stone when she returned. “Are you good?”

Miyuki held out the ice shard. “Ice. Ice is my element.”

         Nicholas nodded. “Now what?”

Miyuki breathed out. She had stopped shivering ages ago, long before she had returned to him. In fact, the cave, and the shard she held, were no longer cold. She didn’t feel anything at all, actually. No temperature. Not hot, not cold. It was like she was one with the frozen air.

“Begin your ceremony, my Master,” Miyuki whispered and when she looked up Nicholas could see white creeping into her irises, overtaking the blue like ice across a pond. “I am ready.”

“If you are ready then there is no need for ceremony, but for celebration,” Nicholas murmured, taking hold of her and sliding her dress from her shoulders. “Today, Miyuki, you cast off your past. You shed the burdens and worries of those who sought to control you; and you enter into my service, freely, and without reservation, for you know I will grant you that freedom in return.” He ran his hands down her chest, fondling her breasts before bending down to tenderly kiss her. “In return, I accept you, Miyuki, and I name you High Priestess of this harem. Through the power of the ice, which has already fought for you, and will forevermore, you will protect your harem, your family, just as they in turn will protect you.” He closed his eyes when the evolution glow started. “This is going to suck.”

Miyuki was mid evolution so she didn’t hear him say that but she reacted when he dropped with her to the stone floor. Her body, still changing, arched back when Nicholas finished removing her dress and unzipped his pants. He really was considering whether or not to initiate sex when she was in the middle of her evolution – it seemed rather dangerous – but the decision was made for him when Miyuki’s hand reached out and took his member. Her hand was cool, but not cold, and Nicholas felt himself growing erect as she worked the shaft until finally he couldn’t resist and plunged deep into her cunt.

Miyuki didn’t scream but rather sighed, her body settling down as he penetrated her. The evolution was finishing now and he could see how she had changed – major differences he could see already were her skin color changing to a deep blue, her fluffy ears and tail losing the fluff and becoming sleek instead, and of course, as it seemed with all pokegirls, a bit of general growth. He guessed her eyes had been stained white as well, from what he had seen before the evolution, and when she opened them he was proven right. Miyuki’s eyes had become white with a light blue sheen, exactly like the ice she had embraced.

“Why have you stopped?” Nicholas blinked at her. Miyuki’s voice hadn’t changed much but her tone definitely had. “We have not completed the ceremony.”

Nicholas smiled and ran a hand down her cheek. “Of course, high priestess. My mistake.”

Miyuki hissed with pleasure when he began to thrust and she wrapped her legs around his, holding him in place as he continued to move. The cold floor against his knees was forgotten when he felt her respond, rotating her hips in tandem with him to change his simple thrusting into a cycle that rubbed his dick across every one of her walls. Within minutes he came, grunting as he poured his load deep in her pussy. Miyuki sighed contentedly, continuing her own movements until Nicholas grew soft, at which point she unwrapped her legs and let him stand up. Nicholas was wiping up when Miyuki stood. Her dress forgotten, she caught his attention by posing nude with her hands on her hips. “In you, I have been reborn, my Master.” Her eyes sought his longingly. “Thank you. Thank you, Nicholas.” For a moment tears beaded in her eyes and Nicholas could see the same scared Eevee, but she quickly blinked them away and pulled her face back into the royal demeanor. “Once we have cleaned, shall we continue?”

Nicholas chuckled. “No need to be so formal, Miyuki.” He tucked his dick away and bent forwards to kiss her. “I prefer it when my high priestess squeals.”

A blush began to spread across Miyuki’s cheeks and she cleared her throat. “Then, ah…” with an embarrassed huff she whirled to Ryuko. “How do you deal with him!”

Ryuko chuckled. “By being myself, Alpha. My words sound foreign in your mouth.” She smiled. “Even ice may melt, as you are finding out.”

The blush was burning hot now and Miyuki turned back to see Nicholas fiddling with his pants. “Master…” she closed her eyes. No, that’s not who he was to her. “Nicholas. Are we going to keep moving?”

Nicholas glanced up at her and smiled. “I’m in no rush. Besides, you’re melting.” He pointed at where her movements had jostled loose a bit of his cum. “Are you going to fix that? Or,” he finished undoing the last button and let his pants drop to the floor, “should I reduce you to a puddle?”

Miyuki swallowed hard. Her senses hadn’t been diminished at all by the evolution and the wave of his scent that hit her when he dropped his pants was too much. Wordlessly she dropped to her knees.

Nicholas felt someone else begin stroking his back and he chuckled. For some reason the cave didn’t feel so cold anymore.
