Chapter 13

Persona

         Dahlia trembled as fingers trailed up her naked body. The gentle hands spread when they reached her breasts, massaging her chest and sending shivers through her body.

         “Soon, we will be late to training, my Alpha.” Kali smiled down at the Venusaur as she positioned the tip of her tail. “And we can’t be having that.”

         Dahlia moaned when Kali penetrated her, Mewtwo’s tail squirming as deep as it could before beginning to twist over itself. Dahlia’s back arched from the pleasure, her own vines snaking up Kali’s legs and seeking her cunt. Kali hissed as they entered, leaning back as well to raise her perky breasts high. The two pleasured each other for a few minutes before Kali came, roughly groping her own breasts as she screamed in ecstasy. Her erratic motions translated to her tail and Dahlia cried out in unison as her own orgasm hit.

         The two slowly came down from the high, but it was a while before either pulled out of the other. Eventually, though, Dahlia slid her vines free and gently extricated Kali’s tail. “We’re late.”

         Kali gave her a smug smile. “Punishment is in order.”

         Dahlia returned the smile with one of her own. “The Alpha will punish you.”

         “The training leader will punish you.”

         Dahlia grinned and leaned in, tenderly kissing Kali. “Same time next week?”

         Kali purred as she kissed back. “Gladly.”

         Dahlia slid out of bed and pulled her panties on. “I’ll head to the field. Take your time.”

         Kali’s smile hadn’t faded and now she watched Dahlia move. “You have truly grown, my Alpha. As have you all.”

         Dahlia glanced back at her. She definitely had grown. A year ago, she felt strong. Now she felt nothing at all. She simply was strong. Kali was no longer some unbeatable monster. Now she was her lover. She even managed to hold her own against her sometimes, something the Dahlia of before could never have imagined doing.

         “It’s all because of you.”

         “I have helped. But it is because of you, and because of our Master, who allows us the freedom to be as we are,” Kali replied. “That is a lesson you taught me.”

         “I guess you’re right.” Dahlia turned away, flexing slightly and gazing at the solid muscle under her skin. “You usually are.”

         Kali grinned and got out of bed herself. “Yes, my Alpha.”

         Dahlia was still lost in her thoughts until she realized Kali had gone quiet. She glanced over to see her staring at the wall. “What?”

         “Mistress Sabrina is here.” Kali turned and grabbed her hoodie, only bothering to zip it over her stomach. “I must speak with her.”

         “Don’t be too long.”

         Kali waved and teleported. Sabrina was approaching the front door of the house when Kali appeared in front of her. “Mistress Sabrina.”

         Sabrina ground to a halt. “Kali. Every time you call me that I get shivers.”

         Kali shrugged. The motion popped her breasts free from her hoodie and she stood, arms and legs askew, as casual as she could be. “You are my Master’s mate, so you are my Mistress.”

         “Uh-huh.” Sabrina stared at Kali’s chest for a few seconds before pulling herself back to her face. “Are you inviting me in?”

         “No. I came to ask your purpose here.”

         Sabrina sighed. “I’ve been checking in every week. Why now?”

         “You come every Saturday. Today is Monday. It is outside of the norm.”

         “I can’t visit more often?”

         “You are busy, just as Master Nicholas is busy. There is a reason.”

         “Yeah. There is.” Sabrina shifted onto her back foot. “I’m going on a trip. I’ll be leaving on Saturday, after I swing by to check on everyone, and I don’t think I’ll be back for a few weeks. Maybe a month.”

         “Safe travels, Mistress.” Kali bowed her head slightly. “We will await your return.”

         “Yeah. Could I talk to Dahlia instead?”

         Kali smiled slightly. “My Alpha is busy organizing our training for the day. Once I am finished speaking with you, I will join her.”

         “Okay. Cool.” Sabrina finally turned away. “It was... nice talking to you, Kali.”

         “Likewise, Mistress.”

         Sabrina glanced back at her once more before walking back towards the designated teleport area.

         Kali watched her vanish and her smile dropped. What she had seen in Sabrina’s mind... her teeth glinted as she snarled in rage. She would wait for Saturday. Then, she too would be leaving on a trip.

         It had been far too long since she last hunted. Team Rocket would be reminded of true fear.

         Nicholas looked up from his pokedex every few minutes to watch the activity around him. A week of recovery had left the harem pent up. The orgy had helped relieve one source of tension – today’s training was meant to relieve another.

         “Miyuki!”

         The Eevee skidded to a halt. “Yeah?”

         “Can you come over here, please? Ryuko, you too.”

         Ryuko glanced over from where she had been sparring with Nessa. Giving the Croconaw a quick bow she dashed up behind Miyuki. “Master?”

         “Miyuki. You don’t know any techniques, do you.”

         Miyuki kicked her toe in embarrassment. “I was never trained in battle, and I’m just an Eevee…”

         “No, it’s okay. I’m just trying to figure things out.” Nicholas turned to Ryuko. “Ryuko. How did you train at your school?”

         Ryuko’s eyebrow rose. “Master?”

         “How did you train. When you weren’t trying to kill your opponent.”

         Ryuko’s face fell. “Oh. Apologies, Master. The truth is, even in training injuries were expected.” She sighed. “If your skills were not enough, you got hurt. It was motivation.”

         Nicholas nodded. “That’s why I can see you holding back.”

         Ryuko turned to look at where Nessa was taking a break. “Yes, Master. I can’t help it. If I fight with my blades, my sister may get cut. And there is no value in practicing techniques I would only use unarmed.”

         “No?”

         “No, Master.” Ryuko turned back to him. “To be disarmed again would be failure. If I am truly worthy, I will never fail again.”

         “Hm.”

         Ryuko waited patiently for him to speak. When Nicholas returned his attention to his pokedex she nervously shifted her feet. “May I return to training, Master?”

         “Go take a break. Miyuki, stay here. NESSA!”

          Nessa plodded over to take the spot Ryuko vacated. “Hey.”

         “Hey. How are you doing against Ryuko?”

         Nessa shrugged. “She’s fast. But after talking with Victoria I feel like I’m able to channel my emotions properly.” She clenched a fist, flexing a bit as she growled. “Anger, fear, all of it is just energy for me to direct.”

         “So you’re doing all right, then.”

         Nessa relaxed. “I think so. We’ve been trading hits.”

         “Has she been using her daggers?”

         Nessa blinked. “No, she hasn’t. Why?”

         “Miyuki, as Alpha, you need to understand your harem’s strengths and weaknesses. If Ryuko was to use her daggers, how would that change the matchup between her and Nessa?”

         Miyuki frowned. After a few seconds she nodded. “Nessa is a… brawler, would be a good word. She takes hits and gives them at the same time. Ryuko is an assassin. She would make quick attacks, using her daggers to cut Nessa and drain her stamina.”

         “Who would win in a real fight?”

         “I’m… not sure,” Miyuki replied. “Ryuko is a very strong fighter, so-“

         “But if Nessa got a good hit, Ryuko would be in trouble,” Nicholas cut in.

         Miyuki fidgeted. “Well… yes.”

         “So?”

         Miyuki struggled a few moments more before deflating. “I don’t know.”

         “Exactly.” Nicholas smiled and reached out to pat her head. “You don’t know. And you won’t know until the fight is over. However, I’d favor Ryuko. Enough cuts and Nessa would be pretty quickly worn down.” He turned to the Croconaw. “Miyuki is right. You’re a generalized fighter, built for prolonged fights. The problem is that if you can do everything, you’re not exceptional at anything.”

         Nessa nodded. “I understand.”

         “An opponent that only attacks from range will get free hits on you until you find a way to close the gap. An opponent like Ryuko who wants to attack quickly and avoid hits will take you apart if you can’t strike fast or smart enough. And you won’t put out enough damage to defeat an opponent that is built to endure damage.”

         Nessa nodded again. “What can I do?”

         Nicholas smiled. “If you can’t specialize, your only option is to simply be stronger.”

         Nessa chuckled softly. “That easy?”

         “Here’s what I want you to try. Focus.” Nicholas showed Nessa his pokedex screen. “For example against someone like Ryuko, who fights by moving fast and wearing you down, you would either focus on defense, or focus on guaranteeing hits. You can’t match her speed so you’d need to fight smart.”

         Nessa gazed at the diagram he had drawn. “I… understand.” She twisted, flicking her tail and gazing at the tough skin that spread from it. “If I really focused on defending, Ryuko probably couldn’t even cut me.”

         “Exactly.”

         “But when I’m not focusing, her attacks would work.” Nessa flicked her tail once more as a grin grew across her face. “I get it. I can do everything, and still be good at it if I focus on a few things at a time!”

         “Attagirl.”

         Miyuki watched Nessa return enthusiastically to the field. “You are an excellent tamer.”

         “Hoping I have the answer for you too, aren’t you.”

         Miyuki turned back with a nervous smile. “I was hoping.”

         “Heh.” Nicholas gazed at where Sera was taking her own break. “I bet Sera is getting jumpy. She’s the only one I haven’t called over.”

         Miyuki didn’t turn. He kept avoiding her questions. “Nicholas… I know I’ve told you that I can’t fight. But I want to learn. I need to, don’t I? If I’m going to be your Alpha, I need to be… I need to be strong.”

         “I can’t just snap my fingers and make you strong, Miyuki.” Nicholas grinned and gave Sera a thumbs up. The Golbat jumped when she realized he had seen her furtive glances and cautiously smiled back. When Nicholas winked and turned back to Miyuki she relaxed. “I can show you the path. But I can’t take it for you.”

         Miyuki barely nodded. “I know that. I do.”

         “Pounce on my bag.”

         Miyuki blinked. “What?”

         “What I said. Pounce on my bag.” Nicholas pointed at his backpack. “Whatever that means to you, do it.”

         Miyuki turned towards it. Why did he keep evading, coming up with silly reasons to not answer her questions? Now this. Pounce. She bent her legs slightly, staring at the backpack. She felt stupid.

         “You feel awkward because you’ve never tried this before,” Nicholas’ voice echoed in her ear. “This is your first step, Miyuki. Take it.”

         Miyuki glanced back to see him watching her. Swallowing, she turned back to her target.

         Legs bent. That was what a pounce was, right? She was supposed to jump. Miyuki stood frozen. She just had to… jump.

         That wasn’t something a priestess should do…

         Nicholas stepped up beside her and ran a hand down her back. “Just like Ryuko, you are shackled by someone else’s ideals. You are no longer their priestess, no longer their pokegirl. You are mine. I claim you as my priestess, Miyuki. Today, the eternal ones will lose a servant.” His hand traveled over her trembling body and down her leg. “Move.”

         Miyuki felt her body move to his touch almost outside of her control. After a few seconds she settled, feeling her weight shift forwards. Unconsciously her tail flicked out, counter balancing her as Nicholas moved to her arms. One hand down, almost touching the ground, and the other by her chest, palm outstretched. Miyuki let out her breath when Nicholas stepped away. She’d never felt like this before. Standing like this, in this position, in her chest a feeling stirred…

         Nicholas walked over and grabbed his bag and Miyuki watched in shock when he tossed it away. Instead of only a few feet it now sat at least fifteen away. “You are a pokegirl, Miyuki. You were born to fight. To serve in BATTLE! YOUR MASTER CALLS! POUNCE!

         For the first time in her life Miyuki’s fangs slid past her lips. The hand at her chest came down, slamming into the ground as her legs tensed, propelling her through the air with her other hand outstretched. Nicholas dove aside when she struck, digging her claws into his bag and sending it spiraling through the air. Instantly she was on it again, biting into the fabric as she tumbled to the ground. She was getting her bearings when she heard another command; whirling, she saw Nicholas gesturing at Nessa. The Croconaw barely spared him a glance before bracing, water bubbling from her jaws.

         Deep within Miyuki’s psyche a switch flipped. It was something that had remained intact even as she went feral, but with adrenaline surging through her the repressed instincts came to life. Nessa cursed when the Eevee leapt again, clearing her Water Gun and landing in striking position. Miyuki’s first strike was clumsy, untrained and unsure, but her second glanced off Nessa’s arm. Instantly Nessa fell back, gauging Miyuki’s stance before settling into a defensive one of her own. The two bristled, Miyuki on all fours with her tail sticking straight up, and Nessa in her tripod position.

         Miyuki jumped when someone slapped her back. She whirled with her hand raised but stopped when she saw Nicholas smiling at her. “Nicholas-?”

         “That was a beautiful first step, Miyuki,” Nicholas murmured. “You feel it now, don’t you? The fighting instinct all pokegirls have.”

         Miyuki slowly straightened back up. She did feel it. She had only barely done anything and her entire body burned with energy. She wanted to… she wanted to fight. Years of repressed feelings bubbled up and she heard a growl echo from her throat. “I feel…” she slowly looked at Nicholas, “I feel powerful.”

         Nicholas’s eyes shone with approval when he clasped her shoulders. “Because you are. NESSA!” He looked up. “Spar with Miyuki. Don’t hold back.”

         Miyuki should have felt a twinge of fear but she didn’t. She only felt excitement. “For how long?”

         Nicholas grinned and Miyuki shivered at the expression he took. “Find out.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
         Miyuki’s tail was waving slowly back and forth as Nicholas approached. Before he could get close she spoke. “Good evening, Nicholas.”
         Nicholas took a seat next to her. “How did you know it was me?”
         Miyuki smiled. “I smelled my Master.”
         Nicholas chuckled. “You do have some sharp senses.”
         “I do.” Miyuki’s eyes lingered over part of the scenery before she turned to him. “I think I have a sharp intuition, as well.”
         “Oh?”
         “You tease us - Ryuko, Sera, myself - but you respect our choices, don’t you? You moan about our oaths but you haven’t refused them. Not a single one.”
         Nicholas shrugged slightly. “I guess I haven’t.”
         “Why?”
         Nicholas smiled ruefully. “Why, Miyuki? Why do I believe what I believe, why do I treat pokegirls the way I do... why do I lash out against the legendaries, the eternal ones, why do I not give them my unquestioning devotion like so many others have?” He turned to her. “The answer is the same. I do not like blind worship. I do not like it when it is expected from me and I do not like it when it is given to me. I expect respect to be earned, not assumed. That is why.”
         Miyuki slowly blinked. “You’re an atheist.”
         “Heh.” Nicholas turned back to the view. “Not exactly. I think something created the reality we live in, but I haven’t found what it is yet. And until I do, I refuse to listen to people claiming that their god is the answer. Whether that is a human god or a pokegirl one.”
         “What if we avow ourselves to you because you have earned our respect?”
         Nicholas shrugged. “We’ve only barely gotten to know each other. Try that again in ten years.”
         “Ten years? Does it really take ten years for a pokegirl to realize her Master is worth serving?” Miyuki’s hand moved to his leg. “Yesterday, I was transformed. It did not take me ten years. Because you guided me it took ten minutes.”
         “I feel there’s a difference between embracing something you were born with, and choosing to surrender your entire self to a human you’ve only just met.” Nicholas took her hand and gently moved it off his leg, but kept it in his own. “I will be your Master, your tamer, and I will guide you to becoming as strong as you want to be. You will be my pokegirl, and yes, as we have discussed you will by necessity bow to my will. But I remember what a scared Eevee asked me, all those days ago. She asked to be free.” Nicholas squeezed Miyuki’s hand. “So I will continue to protest your oaths, and I will continue to encourage your independence. As much as a pokegirl may have, I will give you your freedom.”
         Nicholas leaned back when Miyuki twisted, straddling him and hugging him tightly. “That’s exactly why,” she whispered. “That is why we have given you our everything. There can be no more worthy Master than you.”
         Nicholas returned Miyuki’s tender kiss, stroking her hair until she pulled back slightly and rested her forehead against his. “Unless you’ve met every single human on the planet, you can’t be absolutely sure.”
         Miyuki giggled and licked his nose. “Yes I can. You’re right here.” She giggled again when Nicholas pecked her on the nose and separated, sliding further down his lap before curling up against his chest, her tail wrapping around to turn her into a perfect fluffy circle. “What did you want to talk about?”
         Nicholas smiled and ran his fingers through Miyuki’s hair, stroking her tail as he finished the sweep. “Haven’t we talked enough?”
         “Maybe,” Miyuki hummed happily when he continued his motions, “but I know you didn’t come find me for no reason.”
         “Spending time with my Alpha. Is that not reason enough?”
         “Alpha.” Miyuki’s ears flicked idly. “That’s right. I’m your Alpha, no longer just a pokegirl in your harem. They can have moments with you. But your Alpha is always working. Even now we are stealing time and delaying whatever work needs to be done.”
         Nicholas didn’t stop stroking her as he looked away. “All you wanted was freedom, and now you’re even more bound to me. Can you forgive me?”
         “This is my freedom,” Miyuki murmured in return. “A tamer who truly wants what is best for me. A Master who has made me feel safe.” She raised her eyes to his. “Here, I feel free. I feel like I belong.” She smiled. “I suppose every pokegirl needs her purpose. You are mine. You are the Master who will make me strong.”
         Nicholas thought back to a similar conversation he had once had with Dahlia. “That’s what my last Alpha said too.”
         “Hm?”
         “Her name is Dahlia,” Nicholas explained. “She told me how pokegirls need a tamer, a Master, to keep them focused and growing. At the time, I didn’t listen. I didn’t want to. But over time I’ve come to understand that she was right.” He looked down at Miyuki. “Hearing you say the same things just reinforces that.”
         Miyuki’s radiant smile brought one to his own lips before she curled back up. “Talk.”
         “I know our next destination.”
         “Where?”
         “A port town to the west. Olivine.”
         “When do we leave?”
         Nicholas paused with his hand on her head. “We need to be there in around ten days, so... now.”
         Miyuki blew air out her nose. “I’ll gather the harem.”
         “No, not yet.” Nicholas resumed his motions. “There’s a gym here. I’d like to at least take a look. We’ll leave tomorrow afternoon.”
         “I... I’m not ready to face mister Morty in combat,” Miyuki whispered. “I’m sorry.”
         “That’s why I said just a look,” Nicholas teased. “We can challenge him later. Once you’re comfortable fighting.”
         “Thank you.” Miyuki settled deeper into his lap with a sigh. “I can feel it, this energy when I battle, but... I can’t use it yet.”
         “I’ll help you figure out what techniques you can learn,” Nicholas replied. “You’re my first pure Normal-type so it will be a learning experience for both of us.” He kissed her hair. “I don’t think either of us want you dashing around with nothing but your claws to defend yourself with.”
         Miyuki laughed. “No. And...”
         Nicholas waited as she trailed off. After a minute he nudged her. “And?”
         “...Sorry. I had a moment of weakness.”
         Nicholas frowned. “What do you mean?”
         “I... Do you remember what mister Eusine said about the city, and Eevee?”
         Nicholas thought back. “I remember him talking about how people here see you as special, because of the legendary beasts.”
         “That’s it,” Miyuki replied. “Eevee here don’t evolve unless it’s during a very important ceremony. For a moment, I thought if I was leaving with you, I could cheat and just...” she trailed off again. “Sorry. But I shouldn’t.”
         “Shouldn’t evolve just to become stronger, is that it?” Nicholas patted her shoulder. “I won’t force you to do anything, Miyuki. If you choose not to evolve, then that’s it.”
         Miyuki relaxed. “Thank you. I know it’s silly, since I’ve already abandoned the conclave, but, well...”
         “It’s still something important to you,” Nicholas replied gently, “and you want to follow your tradition.” He squeezed her when Miyuki nodded. “There is nothing wrong with that. Whenever you’re ready just let me know what I need to do.”
         “Thank you,” Miyuki whispered.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

         “You’re leaving, then.”

         Nicholas’ eyes were on his harem as they mingled. “I am. Thank you, again, for keeping things quiet.”

         Morty nodded to himself. “I found it strange that your Golbat was so insistent, but now that I know the truth… I can understand.” He turned to shake Nicholas’ hand. “Thank you, Champion. I know Miyuki is in good hands if she’s with you.”

         Nicholas kept Morty’s hand firmly for an extra second before letting go. “Careful. Next time you see her, she’ll be coming for your throat.”

         Morty smiled. “I look forward to it.”

         “Miyuki!” Nicholas waved at the group. “We’re leaving.”

         Miyuki broke off to join the two humans. “Got it.” She looked at Morty before bowing slightly. “Thank you, mister Morty. Without your help I would have never found Nicholas.”

         “I await your return, Miyuki. Make sure it is a victorious one.”

         Miyuki blinked before slowly nodding.

         “Let’s go.” Nicholas began walking, turning back after a bit to wave. “Be safe!”

         Morty waved back, watching until the group had vanished down the road.

         Standing atop a rock formation, a woman watched the five figures. After a minute she turned, watching as flames raced up towards her before coalescing into a pokegirl.

         “Hello, sister.”

         Entei inclined her head slightly to Suicune. “Sister. Why have you not returned to our search?”

         Suicune turned back. “I have.”

         Entei stepped up beside her and gazed out at the group. “That human was watching our last meeting.”

         “Yes.”

         “You believe he is worthy?”

         “I believe he must be watched,” Suicune replied. “The one with him, she is a sacred daughter; and she follows him happily.”

         Entei nodded. “I wish you success, sister.”

         “And I you.”

         Suicune kept her eyes trained on Nicholas even as Entei’s body erupted in flames and streaked off over the trees. After a while, once he and the harem had almost disappeared from sight, her own body shimmered. A moment later there was nothing but a fine mist, carried by the blowing wind and casting brilliant rainbows through the air.
