The stands were still full from the crowd that attended Brock’s last match. Since the Gym Leader didn’t get the chance to battle too often it was a rare treat to watch him battle in multiple matches in one day. Cheering was probably heard for miles around, the outdoor arena was brimming with excitement to see another battle. The challenger's door opened and Marco marched out proudly followed by his Pokégirls. Normally, in an attempt to hide the line-up from a challenger, Pokégirls were kept in their Pokéballs until it was their turn to fight. Marco didn't feel this was necessary. The Gym Leader's Pokégirls were already well known. This was an opportunity for them to see the competition.

Jasmine felt a small knot in the pit of her stomach form when she laid eyes on Marco’s pokégirls. Not many tamers exercised that amount of control over their pokégirls and forced them to wear a particular uniform when they battle. It just didn’t fit as far as she could see, she’d met the man and two of his girls, both who had actually assaulted him in her presence and he didn’t seem to care. Now they all had serious looks and were apparently there for business.

Marco’s girls stood together each wearing similar dress; black bdu pants that were stuffed into a pair of heavy duty boots, a short sleeve indigo t-shirt with a tactical vest, and black fingerless gloves. The exceptions were Chesra who wore her armor and Carrie who continued to wear her hooded-cloak pulled up and no boots. It allowed her to use her bladed toes in combat and Marco didn’t see a problem with it. All five of them walked in unison to his side of the field, Marco approached the tamers box while Ashley went to her place on the starting line, and the others took a seat in the team area of the side lines.

From the other side Brock watched. ‘His girls move like a well-oiled machine, and I don’t even know what that is in the cloak. Judging by the way they are sitting Henrietta and the one in the armor are the cleanup crew.’ “Marco they're looking good, best of luck to you!” Brock shuddered when he noticed the two handles poking up over Ashley’s head; metal, reinforced, pick-axes. ‘Yep, it’s going to be a long day.’ In a quick decision he released his first pokégirl, Sharon the Giant Trollop, her size and power more than making up for her lack of speed.

“You too Brock!” ‘Damn she is big; I hope Ashley is up to this.’

The countdown timer on score board in the middle field was slowly easing down; the entire crowed fell silent, waiting in anticipation for the buzzer to sound. Electricity sparked off Ashley as she crouched down to her starting stance. She eyed the Giant Trollop with eagerness. This was going to be her first real battle against a pokégirl where she was at a type disadvantage so she wanted to hit hard and fast.

On the challenger’s sideline Marco’s three girls looked on in anticipation. Henrietta had invested a lot of time into training the Peekabu and was hoping the best for her. “So I think she has a fair chance at winning.”

“I got 10,000. SLC that says she gets beaten.” Chesra quipped, it wasn’t that she didn’t want her to win, but she was being realistic about the situation. These were Gym Leader pokégirls after all and with this particular opponent it was going to be tough to say the least. ‘She doesn’t have the strength to take her out. She better go heavy on the speed and wear her down over time.’

“You’re on. Go Ashley!” Cheered Henrietta, the final seconds of the clock ticked down and the buzzer sounded.

The second she heard the buzz Ashley broke off in a dead sprint towards Sharon, the squealing crackle of electricity emanated from her right arm as she built up more electricity. At the last second she jumped into the air going completely horizontal and spinning to build up momentum. With a deafening boom she punched the girl right in the face sending electricity into the hit. The twelve foot tall Giant Trollop rocked back on her heals, more from the force of the blow than anything else, and in a surprise move rocked back forward and swung her arm in the direction Ashley had landed in. The Peekabu skittered back from the force of the blow, bouncing across the hard ground and rolling back to her starting position in front of Marco.

“So… did you learn something important?” He asked while looking her over, if she hadn’t of jumped backwards when she did she’d be out cold.

“Two things: one, don’t go head to head with someone that strong. Number two, remember number one.” As luck would have it she was just grazed and aside from some road rash, was completely unharmed.

“Use the picks, just no aiming for the head.”

“Roger that sir.” She reached back and pulled the two picks from the straps they hung from. Unlike average mining picks these were reinforced to account for the speed of the user rather than raw power most pokégirls would use them for. Instead of wood the shaft was forged form tungsten, much like Chesra’s armor. The head was made of the same material and had the standard pick on one side while the other was a broad hammer. Between Chesra and Selena the weapons were forged perfectly: evenly balanced, proper weight distribution, and conducted the electricity generated by their owner. Ashley could help but make a show and arced a current between the two picks.

A bead of sweat dropped from Jasmines head as she contemplated being hit by those. ‘Wow, if Sharon takes a direct hit from that it’s all over… assuming the Peekabu can pierce her skin.’

‘Well that’s enough showing off, time to get started.’ The Peekabu took off yet again, right towards the Giant Trollop. Having learned her lesson from last time Sharon attacked first swinging her arm in a wide arch to hit her target. Ashley dodged to the outside then shot forward, hooking her pick around the other girl’s leg and pulling in an attempt to trip her. In one of the most astounding feats most had seen, the giant back flipped high into the air then landed into her Earthquake attack. Ashley quickly dropped to lay flat on the ground and lessen the effects of the quake.

Suddenly the Peekabu found herself suspended in mid-air, held up by one leg thanks to the Giant Trollop. She flailed wildly in an attempt to break free but Sharon’s grip was too much. In a true moment of inspiration she drove the pick into the girl’s side with everything she had, with no leverage it lodged firmly in but didn’t penetrate. Letting go of the first pick, she then held the second with both hands and slammed the two heads together, driving the first one in deeper. The giant howled in pain tossing Ashley high into the air and attempting to remove the weapon from its side.

“Huh, you and Selena did a great job on those weapons.” Henrietta remarked as she watched the Peekabu travel higher into the air. “Sure it took a little work but she manage get a good shot in. Here ya go.” She praised as she reached into her vest and handed Chesra an SLC card.

“Thanks, you talk like it’s over though,” By this time gravity had taken hold and reversed Ashley’s direction. “If she plays this right, good chance she could win.”

“Ashe, bring the hammer down!!” Screamed Marco with the hope that she could hear him up there over the cheering mass of spectators.

“Sharon, pay attention to where your opponent is!” Brock yelled.

Ashley heard Marco loud and clear, gritting her teeth she started spinning forward to gain momentum and centrifugal force, as well as throwing her electricity into the pick. At the last second she extended both her arms and brought the hammer head down on the Giant Trollop’s shoulder with a boom. She wasn’t done yet though, in an act that defied all human ability she pulled back in, rotating one more time then brought the hammer back down on the handle of her other pick. The pick freely spun in the giant’s side causing blood to spurt out.

‘Holy shit I’m dizzy. And I think my hand went numb.’ Ashley shook her head trying to get her equilibrium back.

‘Tiny mouse girl is tough.’ Sharon was reeling from the multiple attacks she had suffered but was still in the game. She’d fought plenty like the Peekabu before, the Peekabu’s personality and inexperience was going to be her downfall. Her eye’s widened in horror when she saw the rodent girls hand spark as she dodge around her swings and reached for the picks handle that was still lodged in her side. Electricity coursed through her body for the first time in a long time, it was a feeling she never got used to.

Ashley pulled her pick out and stood back in triumph as the rock pokégirl tilted forward in a fainting position while going down to one knee. Marco could tell there was something wrong with the way she was falling, it just seemed too… scripted. “Ashley get out of the…” It was too late, from her position on one knee the giant sprung forward into a super-fast head-butt.

A pick glistened as it rotated in midair, free of its master’s hand. Then it returned to earth driving itself into the ground. The dust cleared and Ashley was laid out, her nose was obviously broken from the force of the attack. A red capture beam took her up and she was gone. With a flip of the wrist Marco tossed her pokéball to Henrietta. The referee waved the flag indicating that the Peekabu was out of the battle.

“Let her out and make sure she’s ok. Carrie, you’re up, give it your best.”

From Brocks side of the field a NurseJoy ran up holding a med-kit. Henrietta rereleased Ashley who materialized face up on the ground, immediately the nurse went to work healing the broken nose. “Hi, I’m Gloria, Brocks NurseJoy.” She then turned her attention back to the barely conscious Peekabu. “That was a great fight, you almost had her there… your arm is broken too. This may hurt…”

Marco winced when he heard the scream coming from the side line. He hated to see her in pain but she got what she deserved for being overconfident. They could discus that later though, he had to focus his attention on the match at hand. Carrie was stretching lightly, her hair bobbing slowly as she moved around. On the other side of the field Brock still couldn’t get a reading on what kind of pokégirl she was. ‘I thought he would send the girl in the armor or Henrietta out.’ He’d let out a sigh of relief when Ashley went down, the thought of her fighting his Vixxen was too much to swallow.

Sharon had returned to her side of the field, giving the unknown pokégirl space to enter the field and not feel crowded. ‘Lost blood, tiny red girl might win,’ She rubbed her side lightly, even though she regenerated quickly the hole in her side was reamed open and bleed profusely, it was going to take some time to heal properly. ‘Better finish quick.’

The buzzer sounded and Carrie took off, the Penance was determined to get a win for her master. Chesra watched from the sidelines as Carrie made her approach. The odds were especially good for Carrie to win against the Giant Trollop, her opponent had been weakened by Ashley and she had a partial type advantage.

Carrie snagged the pick from the ground on her approach, ducking under a heavy fist she spun to the side and struck the giant right in the same hole Ashley made causing Sharon to double over in pain. In the same fluid motion she rotated and jammed the pick into the crack in Sharon’s shoulder ripping it backward and taking a huge chunk out of her shoulder armor and flesh. Then in a truly brutal move Carrie forced her bladed fingers together and jammed them into the sizeable hole she’d created earlier. With a spin Sharon threw her off to the side but the damage had already been done. A red capture beam took her as she collapsed to the ground.

“… I think your trainee has some unresolved issues she needs to work through. Double or nothing on her next fight?” Henrietta stuck her hand out, hoping for a chance to win her lost money back. “Good job Carrie!”

“You got a deal.” Chesra sealed the deal with a handshake and turned her attention back to the field. Much like Henrietta to Ashley, Chesra had taken Carrie under her wing. Sure it was Chesra’s job as an Armsmistress to help train the entire unit on weapons, hand to hand combat, and various tactics for fighting other pokégirls. But never before did she have a student that was so receptive to the training. In the short time they had been together Carrie had mastered several different forms of combat in addition to the training mandated by Marco. Apparently how far she’d come was shown in the brutal manner she dispatched her opponent.

Brock was dumb struck; he honestly didn’t expect to see Sharon taken down so quickly. ‘And the pokédex still didn’t register what kind of pokégirl that was.’ “You did a great job Sharon.” He kissed the pokéball then pulled out another one. The beam manifested a Vixxen, the simply adorable fox pokégirl stretched erotically to put on a show for the cheering fans. “Ruby get serious, this isn’t some rookie tamer we’re dealing with.”

On the field Carrie calmly walked back to her sideline where Ashley was recovering. She went down to one knee before her harem sister and held up her pick, motioning for her to take it. ‘The girl’s got class.’ Thought Chesra. “She is returning your weapon, with the blood of your enemy still on it. She’s thanking you for lending her your strength.” Carrie nodded vigorously then bowed before returning to the starting place. “Yep, the girl’s got class.”

“Carrie that was a good job, let’s see you get another win.”

She nodded and looked onto the battle field, the Vixxen was standing there arms crossed and impatiently tapping her foot at the secondary starting position. Lowering her hood more Carrie proceeded to her position and bowed.

"So you took out Sharon, but she was already injured and I'm not. I hope you provide a good challenge." Silence. "Aren't you going to say something?" Carrie shook her head slowly. "Fine, be that way, you'll scream before I'm done with you... I bet you have such a lovely voice."

Those last words echoed in Carries mind, her eyes widening in panic... then rage. Her thought’s flashing back to her time spent with David. 'NO! Not again... I won't be a victim ever again!' In that exact moment the buzzer sounded and she attacked in a blind fury. With a whoosh Ruby ignited and jumped backwards throwing a fireball to stall her opponent. Once the range was established she extinguished the ignite and continued hurling fireballs. Even though Carrie was able to avoid the flames it was difficult at best to close the distance. One balled connected hitting her square in the chest and knocking her back.

Henrietta shook her head in disappointment. “So do you want to pay me now or wait till she hits the ground?"

"She's angry... I don't know what the Vixxen said to set her off but she's lost her composure." Chesra stood up and began to walk towards the tamers box. "She needs direction, Marco can help. I'll pay you if I need to."

'Another mismatched type, I should have switched the lineup.' "What's wrong Chesra?" Marco kept his eyes on the battle, trying to figure out a strategy to get Carrie a win.

"Carrie is furious and can't focus, tell her to relax and switch to Defensive Dance. Make sure she knows that we're behind her."

Marco nodded and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Thanks for the advice Love, if she goes down you're up next."

As she walked away she turned her head back. "She won't go down, not till this girl is defeated."

"Right," He inhaled and bellowed across the field. "Calm down, switch to Defensive Dance! This fight is yours and all of us are behind you."

Her master’s words registered as she picked herself up from being hit by several fireballs. 'I can't let Master down, I won't let Chesra down.' With renewed spirit the Penance began to walk calmly down the field to her opponent.

Defensive Dance, a special form of ranged defense developed by Chesra. She didn't know psychology but she did know fighting and nothing was more aggravating for a ranged fighter than missing by a narrow margin. The style was dependent on keeping a cool head and rotating around projectiles moments before they impacted, giving the illusion of dancing around the attacks. It was something Carrie mastered with ease considering her background as a Diva.

The fireballs were flying hot and heavy but Ruby just couldn't pin down her target. No matter how many she threw at once Carrie just appeared to slide and skip between them. The gap was being closed at a rapid pace and Ruby was running out of space to back up.

"Ruby it's not working, you're going to have to go into close range fighting. Ignite, burning hands, then tackle, if it works follow up with wrestle."

The Vixxen nodded firmly and ignited, the flames coursed violently as she proceeded forward. She leapt with both hands extended to grab, but before she could Carrie lunged forward also. The two girls locked hands in a struggle for dominance. That was until Carrie bore down with her bladed fingers digging into the Vixxens hands. As Ruby tried to break the hold it only made the damage worse. In a surprise attack Carrie kicked her heel up into Ruby's chin, then further going over the girls head before she brought it back down, raking the face and torso with her bladed toes.

Ruby went down to her knees, pain coming from too many areas at once to process as she screamed out. "You bitch! You think you you've got me beat?!" Silence... cold silence. She lowered her head inhaling deeply. "SAY SOMETHING AAAHHHH!" The flamethrower attack fired at close range right at Carries head. The Penance arched back, breaking the hold and avoiding the majority of the attack but her hood was incinerated.

Finally with a clear look at the face Brock hit his pokédex. 'Penance, a freaking Penance?' Ruby had rolled away and back to her feet, she grimaced at the sight of her hands and breast marred with cuts and gashes. "Ruby, she's a Penance, she can't speak."

'Penance or not she's going down.' She jumped forward throwing a fire kick that missed wildly. The two girls once again squared off attacking each other with everything they had.

Reaching into her vest pocket again Henrietta handed over another card. "This is getting expensive, I'm not going to bother betting on whether or not you're going to win your match."

"Thanks, she is performing admirably, despite being at the disadvantage."

Ashley was fully awake by this time. "You two are betting on our matches... I'm sorry I failed."

"You fought well child, just remember how you lost. Kelly and the others will review the battle, there will be questions. You both were forged through the fires of our unit sisters; their strength is yours as well.” Though it came out grim Chesra was trying to be encouraging. ”Look, this battle is almost over."

Back on the field the two girls were still going at it. Ruby had maneuvered her way behind Carrie and locked her arms around the shorter girl’s waist having forgotten about the razor hair. Sensing the panicked response from being cut again Carrie held the girls hands in place and backed into her. Dropping down she slid her feet back between Ruby's legs then kicked them forward causing both girls to fall backward and gouging her further with her braid. Wasting no time she rolled back over the girl’s chest and onto her feet then lifted Ruby up, with the positions reversed she locked her arms around her waist and suplexed her into the ground, then flipped back and repeated a second and final time. Bruised, bloodied, and thoroughly defeated the red return beam took Ruby and the crowd went wild with cheering. The second flag went up over his box and another win was secured.

'She's come a long way in such a short amount of time.' Thought Marco as he watched her slowly walk back across to the starting position closest to him. "That... was a hell of a comeback. You did us all proud." He couldn't really tell but he could swear that she was blushing. "I know you're exhausted but you have to start the next round, are you up for it?" She wiped the sweat from her slightly burnt forehead and nodded.

“What a day.” Brock looked to his alpha, Gem the Galem. "You're the last one and you have two opponents to take down. This isn't going to be an easy fight but do your best." He shook his head as he contemplated the dilemma he was in. 'Marco's harem is top notch; if the Penance is taken down I still have the Armsmistress or Henrietta to deal with. And something tells me they are last for a reason.'

Marco motioned for Jasmine to come over. The two talked for a second and he pointed into the stands. With a firm head nod she left and Marco returned his attention to the battle.

Both Gem and Carrie bowed, showing respect, then moved into their natural stances. The buzzer sounded and the round began. Carrie opened with a flurry of slashes, hoping to deal some damage before she ran out of steam. Unfortunately her blades couldn't cut deep enough to deal substantial damage through the Galem’s outer shell. The rock-type slammed the ground with seismic smash, breaking the smaller girls’ stance, and then peppered her with stone spray. Though the Penance had extra durable skin it was still tender from the previous burns and being pelted with rocks wasn't helping matters. Gem saw the opening and lunged with a takedown attack. Instead of attempting to dodge Carrie took the attack head-on, whipping her hair to the front she grabbed it from two sections and pulled it tight, grinding it up the arm and removing a chunk of rock and flesh. The other arm made full contact though and knocked the Penance flat; valiantly she attempted push back to her feet before she collapsed from exhaustion.

Marco didn't bother activating the return beam; leaving the box he walked onto the field to retrieve his fallen girl. He knelt down and scooped her up into his arms and looked at the Galem who nodded at him. “She fought well, be proud tamer.” He nodded back and walked to the sideline laying her down next to Chesra.

He looked to the Nursejoy. "She did a great job; please make sure she's okay."

The nurse began pouring her healing powers into the unconscious girl. Instantly she coughed and rolled over, favoring her right side. "She will be on her feet before the match is over Mr. Readman."

"Good to hear, Chesra you're up, bring us home."

The Armsmistress reached into her poképack and retrieved what could only be described as a giant nine pronged meat tenderizer. "Your victory is assured Master..." She grinned at the look he shot her. "Marco."

The countdown timer ticked away as Chesra took her place on the battlefield and Marco to the tamers box. The Galem stood proud and confidant before her new challenger. "Master Brock wishes me to grant him victory."

"My Master Marco wishes the same, best of luck to both of us." As Chesra bowed she noticed the faint drip of blood from the Galem's reformed armor. 'That is a nasty wound, good job child.'

The buzzer sounded and at two apiece the final round started. Gem opened the round with her seismic slam stone spray combo, firing a blast of rocks at Chesra. Her feet were firmly planted the rocks turned to dust against her armor and she counter attacked, stepping in and thrusting her hammer forward, knocking Gem back. With a lunge Gem attempted a takedown attack. But before she connected Chesra swung with the hammer, breaking the armor on the already injured arm. She stepped in grabbing the wounded area and hip tossed the Galem to the far side of the field, showing just how much brute strength she possessed. As Gem tumbled she absorbed more of the ground onto her body, resealing the armor and making herself rounder.

"Chesra is a beast of a fighter, I hope I become that good." Remarked Ashley as she watched the Galem get girl-handled.

"Yeah, of all the members of Avalanche she is easily one of the strongest." Replied Henrietta. "Of all the times we've fought I have never beaten her."

Gloria had just finished her healing and looked over to Henrietta. "Your friend is going to be fine... judging by how this fight is going my services won't be needed here. Good luck..." Before she could walk away Carrie touched the NurseJoy 's hand with her palm. With a smile she mouthed thank you. "You're welcome dear, keep training and you'll be as good as her."

Back on the field Gem attempted to keep the distance at long range, flinging rocks down range. Chesra was having none of that. With her raw power and the hammer she destroyed everything airborne that came her way.

Brock was running out of options, the Armsmistress was far too capable to go down easy. "If Gem is going to pull this out she needs to land some high damage attacks. Gem, Roll Out and follow up with Earthquake!"

From a standstill the Galem took off in a dead sprint, then dove, curling into a ball and picking up more earth as she built up momentum. Seeing the incoming attack Chesra changed stances, she stood in a side stance perpendicular to her in coming opponent. Her arms outstretched, free hand forward as if to halt the attack, feet slightly over shoulders length apart. The crowd went silent; this was going to be the defining moment of the match.

On the sideline all three of Marco's girls sat on the edge of their seats. Henrietta had seen Chesra do this before during battle, just never with such a heavy opponent. She had also never seen one walk away from the attack. 'If her timing is off in the slightest she'll be flattened... like that's going to happen.'

Feet before impact Chesra struck, letting the weight of the hammer come down she swung underhand and launched the Galem high into the air. The sound of the impact was almost deafening and for the second time that match everyone's eyes were skyward. Chesra eyed her targets path and threw her hammer into the air before teleporting away. For a brief moment it looked like her aim was off, that was before she reappeared even higher. Letting the hammer start her rotation she caught it and flipped down, striking the Galem again and sending her back to earth. The force of the impact shook the stands and the sound could be heard for miles.

Marco and Brock both wore jaw dropped looks of disbelief. The cloud of dust covered the field and neither combatant could be seen. To everyone's surprise when the dust settled both girls were standing, Chesra knew the score though. As if in slow motion Gem toppled forward, her rock armor breaking away as she fell. But before she could hit the ground Chesra moved and caught her, placing the girl on her shoulders she walked to Brock's side of the field. The third and final flag went up over Marco's box signaling him as the winner, and the crowd erupted in applause.

Gently she laid her down in front of Gloria. "She tried really hard and was standing after my attack. I see why she's the alpha."

Brock was astonished; it was rare to find such honor in such a strong pokégirl. "Thank you, that means a lot. I can see why you are Marco's Alpha." He was taken aback when she started laughing.

"I'm not the Alpha. I'm a Beta."

"Henrietta then?" He scratched his head when she laughed again, those two were clearly the obvious choices.

"No, she's a Beta too. I would explain more but I don't think he would approve. Also he has a personal matter to attend to. Be well Master Stuart."

"And you too... um..." He leaned over as Gloria whispered into his ear. "And you to Chesra."

Once Chesra returned to her sideline she was nearly mobbed by Carrie and Ashley. The two hugging her in celebration over their first gym battle victory. Marco wanted to join them but he and Henrietta had one more battle to fight.

From the speakers the announcement jingle sounded. "Will tamer Reginald Bernard IV please report to the field for your Salvage Battle with tamer Marco Readman, I repeat, Will tamer Reginald Bernard IV please report to the field for your Salvage Battle with tamer Marco Readman."

The sound of murmuring was heavy in the stands. The general question being, who would be so stupid as to challenge Marco after the display he just put on? Jasmine had been watching the tamer since Marco pointed him out and was escorting him to the field, just in case he tried to flee. The two met face to face again, Reginald just as over confidant as ever.

Jasmine stood between the two tamers as a moderator. Her voice echoed through the stands as she spoke into her head set. "Do you two agree to the terms originally stated for your battle?" Both of them nodded, neither saying a word. "Good, the following will be a one on one battle for salvage. Winner gets a pokégirl from the opponent’s harem. Tamers take your places."

Reginald spoke before Marco got the chance to walk away. "Be sure to have the bitch in the armor ready for me when I win." Marco didn't bother to respond, just shaking his head in disbelief.

As he approached the tamer’s box his harem had gathered next to it. They appeared to be having a heated discussion and pointing back and forth to each other. “Chesra, he wants you if he wins."

"Perhaps I should go now, put the brat in his place."

Henrietta stepped up, cracking her knuckles. "You got to fight the Gym Leader's alpha. Ashe lost her fight and Carrie needs some more rest. I got this one."

"Henrietta has this fight. He's managed to piss me off, if he brings out the Nogitsune take it easy on her... anything else, flatten it." Marco couldn't help but note the glee on Henrietta's face as she received her orders.

From the other side of the field they heard the release of a pokéball. Reginald appeared to be giving a stern talk to a Mist Bunny. "Mist Bunny, a magic type. I guess the guy has more money than brains." Reaching into her vest Henrietta pulled out two SLC cards. "Final bet, double or nothing, I take her down in under ten seconds."

Chesra grinned, knowing that her sister was fully capable of doing just what she said. "You have a deal, Marco wants you to make a statement, don't waste time." The two shook hands and Henrietta took to the field.

The two girls took their places from opposite ends, each standing on the line closest to the tamers box. Not a peep was heard as the clock ticked down. Henrietta took her stance, crouching down and a hand next to her thigh holster. Her eyes narrowed as she lined up on the Mist Bunny.

The spectator anticipation was building, tamers tend to fight harder when one of their girls were on the line so they were expecting a hell of a show. Slowly the crowed started to count down. "5... 4... 3... 2... 1..."

Buzz! Ban,an,an,an,ang!

'Uh huh, five shots five hits, I still got it.' Thought Henrietta as she watched the stunned bunny fall to the ground. It was over so fast the crowd couldn't tell what happened.

Immediately Reginald was out of his box crying foul. "She used a gun, she should be disqualified!"

Jasmine was already at Marco's box shaking her head. "You know she can't use a gun, hell she knows she can't use a gun. We are going to have to disqualify you."

He held up his arms in an attempt to calm the OfficerJenny. "Check her holster then check the replay. She's a Calamityjane after all; she can manifest her own firearms." Marco motioned for Henrietta to return while Jasmine spoke into her headset. On the jumbo screen it showed a close up of her in slow motion. As she lifted her arm a revolver materialized, and in the following frames showed her fire off five shots in less than two seconds. The camera then switched to the Mist Bunny taking a shot in both shoulder joints, both knees, and one to the crotch. "See perfectly, ouch, legal." He then turned to Henrietta. "Was that necessary?"

"You said to flatten her. I don't know too many people who would fight after that, now excuse me while I get my money back."

Marco pinched the bridge of his nose then adjusted his glasses. "See... perfectly legal."

"After reviewing the video, the gun was manifested and therefor legal. Tamer Marco Readman wins."

"That is a load of shit! I shouldn't have to give him anything!" The hefty tamer yelled.

"You will give him the pokégirl he chooses, or I'll have your tamers status revoked. Then he will get your entire harem. Now both of you hand over your pokédex." Jasmine wasn't in the mood to deal with a complaining tamer. She plugged the pokédexes into the console located on the tamer’s box. "Mr. Readman, please check his harem list and transfer the girl you want."

"No need to check, I want his Nogitsune. Maybe this will teach him something." Marco pressed the buttons indicated on the console, transferring data and ownership to him.

"What should I have learned you asshole?"

Marco took his pokédex back and approached the tamer. "Battles are serious, salvage battles even more so. Two, treat your girls better or they will be taken from you. Three, never assume you're going to win, there is always someone better. And if you're going to pick a fight, do it at your level. These lessons cost you a pokégirl, and a valuable one at that, next time it may cost you more. Now, hand over the ball."

Reginald looked like he was going to blow a gasket. Reaching to his back he pulled out the ball and threw it. “Take her, you’ll be doing me a favor. I’ll buy another one without as much mouth. Hell I’ll just get a Kitsune.”

“You’re short sighted, but whatever. You get two more lessons for free. Number one, hard work beats natural talent every time. Number two, money doesn’t buy everything. Good luck.” With that Marco returned to his harem. From the other side of the field Brock approached with the freshly healed members of his harem that fought Marco’s. “Hey, that was a good battle.”

“Yeah you’re telling me. I haven’t lost like that in years. Here’s your Heart of Stone Badge, you earned it.” Brock presented a stone case containing a badge in the shape of a Crystal Onyx with her tail curled into the shape of a heart. “Since this is your first gym badge this case is to hold all the others you may acquire… god help those other Gym Leaders.”

“You’re going to warn them I’m coming aren’t you?” Marco chuckled as the thought of a warning poster with him and his harem jumped into his mind.

“Maybe Kasumi of Cerulesbian City… the others can find out on their own. So what are your plans?”

“I’ll be here one more night and then we’ll take the bus to Stone Town. Not really a fan of hiking though the desert.” Marco’s attention drifted as he watched the two harems talk and congratulate each other. Ruby even shook hands with Carrie and gave her a hug. “It’s good to see that there are no hard feelings after a match.”

“I’ve always taught them to be respectful in victory and defeat. But your girls are spectacular, especially happy I didn’t have to fight Henrietta.”

“Yeah… that guy had it coming though. But that’s not important, we must be going. Thank you for the match.” The two of them shook hands and parted ways.

In the back office of the Pewtit Gym Brock and his harem were reviewing the video of the match with Marco. “Wow, they were pretty good. That Penance got the better of you Ruby.” Sniped Megan the Crystalline Onyx. “That will teach you to taunt your opponents.”

“Quiet Megan, you didn’t have to fight. I think I’m going to be having nightmares about fighting the Armsmistress for weeks.” Gem shuddered at the thought of getting hit by the hammer again.

“The CalamityJane said she was one of the strongest in Avalanche, whatever that is.” Gloria noted as she checked over her harem sisters.

Jasmine had almost dropped her mug when she heard what Gloria said. She skipped the video ahead to Henrietta’s fight with the Mist Bunny. From a side shot she zoomed the camera in, focusing on the thigh holster. When she actually thought about it she recognized the emblem on the side. “She did say Avalanche right?” Gloria nodded and Jasmine shook her head in disbelief. Her laptop contained unit files from both the police force and military. After the name search the photo pooped up on the screen. “Don’t feel too bad about the loss Brock.” She chuckled and shook her head in disbelief.

“Well I don’t, but why do you say that.” Brock stated as he tried to figure out what she found so amusing.

“Because Marco Readman, is retired Lieutenant Colonel Marco Readman of the Indigo Military and Commander of the Avalanche Special Forces Pokégirl Squad. Chesra and Henrietta are high ranking pokégirl members of the same unit.”

“So there is a good chance that Chesra could have taken the entire harem one at a time by herself. Doesn’t change the fact that he fought with two new girls.” Remarked Brock as he looked at the picture, not finding Ashley or Carrie. “I guess the short one in the front center is the Alpha. Bet she would get along with Kasumi just great.”

Marco and his team had returned to the hotel to celebrate their victory and meet the newest member of the harem. Upon releasing the girl she immediately backpedaled to the closest wall, assuming Reginald was there and would assault her again. When she finally took the time to look she recognized the tamer.

“You! You’re the tamer that stopped Reggie for hitting me. What are you doing here?”

“I won the salvage battle, the name is Marco, no need to call me Master or anything like that.” He put on his best smile and took a seat.

“And you selected me? What are you, an idiot?” She blurted out to the surprise of everyone in the room.

“Excuse me?” He was honestly baffled, the greeting sounded about right but not the thank you part.

“He paid for an entire harem of Magic pokégirls, and I was clearly the weakest of them all. Why in the hell would you pick me?”

“Well that’s gratitude for ya. If she’s that unhappy here maybe we should send her ass back to her douchebag of a tamer.” The Peekabu scoffed and turned her head. “Really the nerve of some pokégirls, he comes to your defense, takes you away from a bad tamer, and you don’t even have the courtesy to say ‘thank you.’

“That is enough Ashley. She just needs some time to adjust and process the situation.” He didn’t really disagree with Ashley, but coming off hostile wasn’t going to help matters. “Everyone just take a moment to relax and we’ll sort this out. Now, what's your name?”

“Jean, good to see that I won’t be calling you master. It gets soooo bothersome, so who’s the Alpha and when do I get her position?”

“Um… yeah, somehow I doubt that will be happening. You did say yourself; you were the weakest in his harem. We beat the Mist Bunny in his harem, so based on linear thinking, we are stronger than you. On top of that our harem beat the Gym Leader.” Ashley spoke again while everyone except for Chesra nodded in agreement.

“I said enough Ashe.” He pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. He had the cool head blood gift, but that didn’t stop things from irritating him. He just got to choose whether or not he was going to let it get to him most of the time. She once again did have a point and Jean was speechless.

“And to think the pokédex says that Nogitsune are supposed to be quick witted…” She was barely able to close her eyes before she saw Marco move. Having activated his speed ring he was out of his chair, his hand moving sharply in a back hand. He stopped mere inches away from her face, the wind from the swing causing her hair to sway slightly. She fell to the ground, everyone stunned to see him do such a thing. Her hand shook in fear as he touched he cheek, lightly caressing it.

“Ashley, you know I don’t believe in hitting my pokégirls…”

“With the exception of sparing against us.” Spoke Henrietta, she then immediately covered her mouth when his eyes narrowed and he looked up at her.

“Right… I don’t believe in hitting any of you, and thanks to my unique gift I don’t tend get mad very quickly. All the same, and this goes for everyone here, not another word unless I say so.” He pulled her back to her feet and placed a comforting hand on Carrie’s shoulder to keep her from crying.

“What’s deal with weepy over there?” Jane actually noticed a shift from the Armsmistress and thought it better to leave that one alone. “And who is the Alpha?”

“You are new so I will let that last one go for now. She’s a Penance…” Marco could actually see a little remorse in her eyes when he told her that. “and her name is Carrie. Our group really doesn’t have an Alpha, and if you were to press the issue, you can meet her later…” He felt a tap on his shoulder and turned around to see Chesra, who had her hand raised. He knew that she would keep things professional. “You had something to add?”

“Yes Master,” Her eyes narrowed as she looked at Jean. “Marco is a very kind man, and even if you are being rude or inappropriate he will not harm you. Nor would he allow us to do so.” Jane crossed her arms in superiority, until Chesra spoke again. “A word to the wise though, when you meet the Alpha, watch what you say. He won’t protect you from her.”

“Well said Chesra. If you were asking who the true Alpha is, that would be Kelly. She has a lot of responsibilities I burdened her with so she’s never here. In the group I will normally leave Chesra or Henrietta, the two redheads, in charge. Carrie doesn’t speak and… Ashley still has a lot to learn.” He judged the Peekabu from the corner of his eyes. “Though she is right, Henrietta beat the Mist Bunny. What was her position in the harem?”

“She was the Alpha, she’d gotten him more wins than the rest of us so she got the position. I did fight her on a few occasions and it was never easy. How did you beat her?”

Marco was about to answer when the sound of a hand going up alerted him. Turning his head he saw it was Henrietta this time. “Henrietta?” Really he should have known better.

“In less than five seconds.” She chuckled, as she walked up behind him and started rubbing his shoulders.

“I should be mad at you… but yeah, that was pretty funny. You still didn’t need to shoot the girl in the crotch.” He laughed and gave her a pat on the hand. “As you can see, we're not horrible people… well… not really horrible.”

“You shot Amber in the cunt?” Jean walked up to Henrietta in complete seriousness before throwing her arms around the redhead and hugging her tight. “You’re my new best friend. Next to winning fights, he liked screwing her most of all. This makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Speaking of screwing, what’s the schedule look like?”

“Well unfortunately for her, Ashley has managed to irritate me. So her day gets bumped back by one.” Marco could hear the faint curse of the Peekabu from under her breath. “Even though Carrie still seems to be... um... abrasive to me, I don't see any harm in sleeping next to her."

The Penance frowned and pointed to her long flowing silver hair. She had taken it out of the ponytail and let it flow free now that the match was over. "It will be fine child; there are special head coverings for hair like yours. How does that sound?" Chesra smiled and hugged the shorter girl, who nodded in agreement.

"Good, let's get some room service and welcome our new member." Marco announced and looked around as no one did anything. "Oh, the talking ban is lifted. Do as you like."

"I have more questions. Do I have to wear those ridiculous looking outfits?”

“Only when we battle in gym matches. Otherwise you can wear whatever you like. I will suggest a vest though. Extra pockets are always useful.” Marco stated plainly. He was starting to see that Jean really wasn’t that bad after he got around that tough outer shell.

“Last question for now, why did you chose me?"

"Because you didn't deserve the punishment. Your tamer was a fool who didn't know your true value. Even if you were to never evolve you're a strong girl with a stronger will. In the proper environment, with enough understanding, you can do some truly great things. This is true for all pokégirls and people." He picked up a menu and handed it to her.

"You sound like a politician, one of the sneaky ones." She opened up the menu and stared at it for a second. "The ones that tell everyone what they want to hear before stabbing them in the back. But I have to admit, I like what I'm hearing." She took another look and set the menu down, her head lowered in anger and embarrassment. "I... I can't read it..."

"My apologies, I didn't mean to offend... hey girls, do I really sound like that?" They didn't answer immediately, then one at a time they nodded. Even Chesra and Carrie agreed. "Damn it."

Henrietta moved behind him and hugged him close. "Yeah you sound like that, it's true. The big difference though Jean, is that in all my years of knowing this amazing jackass. He has never broken a promise to any of us. And he’ll never let you down."

The Nogitsune had her first genuine smile with the group. She made her way over to the two of them and took a seat on the floor on Marco's left. "That's disgustingly sweet... and also very refreshing. Would you be willing to read this to me so I can order?"

"Sure, it would be my pleasure. Then later I'll send you to the office with Henrietta, Chesra, and Ashley. They can get you the T2s to get you up to speed; you can meet the others, and then review today's battles. But first we eat." Marco made the effort to sit on the floor next to her and they both leaned against the bed. "Be sure to heed Chesra's warning when dealing with Kelly."

"She sounds like a little bit of a bitch." She scoffed and stretched out. "Now what's for lunch, the jerk didn't feed us often."

____

After the meal the group went their separate ways. It was around 1400 and Marco thought it would be a good idea to spend some quality time with Carrie. It dawned on him that he hadn't gotten to know his newest harem members all that well. Remembering that she used to be a Diva his first stop was a music store.

Carrie's eyes lit up when they entered. It had been a long time since she had gotten a chance to be around the thing she loved. In a rush she ran over to the closest digital display, thumbing through the various genres of music. The gloves she wore prevented her from leaving scratch marks so he didn't bother to stop her.

"Afternoon sir," Greeted the Diva from behind the counter. "Do you need any help finding anything today?"

"No no, we had a big battle today and she did excellent. She used to be a Diva too, so I figured she would like this."

The cashier smiled as she looked at Carrie, who was moving to the music from the headphones. "You're a very kind tamer and she's a lucky girl. We are having a sale on portable music players if you would like to get one for her. You can download music from our stores or from websites too."

"Thank you, I'll take one and a set of heavy duty headphones too."

"Yes sir, I think I have just the pair. The band is covered in reinforced fabric and the band itself is durable metal. She shouldn't be able to cut through it too easily. It comes to 90,000SLC total."

Marco blinked a few times and looked at the cashier. "You know she's a Penance?"

A somber look crossed the young girls face. “Yes, the special gloves are a dead giveaway. Sure the hair is an off color, but I've seen polite Mini-Tops so anything is possible. It's just sad to think. We love to sing as a breed, and to have that taken away is tragic." Her eyes began to water as she watched Carrie mouth the words to whatever she was singing. "But she has a good tamer, so she will have a good life."

"Thank you, I'll see to it that she does." Carrie had just finished her song and was weeping but smiling all the same. He waved back while he handed the cashier his card. She ran up happily and bowed. "Nice performance."

The Diva handed him the bag with a bright smile. "Here ya go, it should have a partial charge, so you can start downloading right away."

Marco took the box and handed it to Carrie. "Here, something special just for you. She said you can start your collection right now." The Penance backed away crossing her arms and waving 'no'. "Yes, you earned it, I'm not accepting no for an answer."

She abruptly charged him, throwing her arms around his waist and hugging with everything she had. In a blur she took the box, ripping it open and retrieving the device inside. Then she was gone again, roaming the isles and collecting as many songs as possible.

The Diva chuckled and leaned forward on the counter. "I think she likes it, it's always good to see a satisfied customer."

"Makes the job worthwhile I bet."

After a half an hour the charge finally failed on the player and the two of them left. On a whim the Diva went to check the song Carrie was playing. "1000 Words... good luck girl."

Marco and Carrie continued on their way through the city. Unknown to them a figure from the roof tops kept watch. "Thank god I finally found him. Now I just need to get him alone." Spoke Minerva as she looked through the binoculars.

Evelyn had a worried look, the Espea was just told to go along and assist Minerva with her task. "This seems a bit too easy. Have you managed to crack the code on his pokédex yet?"

"No, he's running military level encryption on it. I figured that once he retired he wouldn't have access to that anymore."

"I heard there was some funny business to do with that. From what I understand he's still in."

"If that's the case then we need to infiltrate the Avalanche HQ. That shouldn't be too much of a problem." She stretched seductively, enjoying the sunshine of the day. "But first we need to try and get a tracker on him."

"Well he's in range; why not just track the pokédex signal?"

Minerva couldn't help but smile. "Ya know, for being such a pessimist, you're not that bad. Kind of happy I let you out of the ball."

‘Bitch’.

During this time and back at the office of Avalanche, Henrietta and the others had arrived. The building was empty, except for a few of the team members lazing about. Chesra released Jean and Ashley from their pokéballs and proceeded to the storage area. Leaving Henrietta to make the introductions.

"Afternoon ladies, is the Major around?" Asked Henrietta to Selena who was busy exercising.

The Caphoochie was hanging upside down from a set of pull-up bars, and flipped down to greet her Beta. "She's in the building somewhere. Thank you by the way."

"For what?"

"For suggesting I take the position of Field Beta. It means a lot." Selena showed her gratitude and force a hug on the unwilling sister.

"Don't mention it. You're the most qualified... where are Mina and the others?"

"Indigo got a request for a mission, all goes well they should be back in the next week or so."

Jean couldn't take it any longer. The two of them were just going on and she had no idea what they were talking about. "What the hell are you two going on about? Where are we? Who is Indigo? Somebody tell me something!" She exploded, waving her arms in the air.

"Who is she, and why is she so loud?" Asked Selena, eyeing the black and white girl.

"I am not loud!"

"This is Jean; Marco picked her up in a salvage battle." Henrietta replied.

"Stop ignoring me!"

"Yeah, she's been a real peach since we got her." Ashley chuckled also not giving her any attention. She did love when Marco gave fun orders. Thinking back to what he said before they went into the pokéballs. ‘If she’s rude or loud just ignore her.’

The Nogitsune took a deep breath and massaged her temples, calming down, and then spoke again. "Would someone please explain what is going on here?"

"Gladly my dear, this is Avalanche Headquarters or the office as we call it. Avalanche is a specialist group of the Indigo Military. The Indigo that Master Sargent Henrietta spoke of is our infiltration team. I am Selena, rather Master Sargent Selena, Field Beta and part time Beta for Echo, taking over for Henrietta while she is traveling with the Colonel."

Jean blinked a few times, trying to absorb all the information she'd just received. "Wait, what Colonel?"

"Your tamer of course silly girl, Colonel Marco Readman." Selena gave a broad smile as the Nogitsune started teetering.

"That idiot? He's a Colonel?" It was a poor attempt to get her composure back and she knew it. "And you're all military pokégirls?"

From outside in walked a Firemaiden carrying bags of groceries. "That's right. I kind of like this one, she's got spunk."

"Emaline it's good to see you, I guess you got cooking duty tonight." Spoke Ashley as she took some of the bags.

"Yep, is Chesra here?"

"Yeah, she’s in the vault getting some T2s for Jean. We also need to get her fitted for a battle uniform, and then we have today's gym battles to review." Replied Henrietta, they moved into the kitchen area to help put to food away. "But first I could use a bath."

"Ok, we should be able to take care of all that. Where is the Colonel and our silent battle princess?"

"They are both still in Pewtit, he mentioned wanting to spend more time with her." The Peekabu pouted, it was supposed to be her lucky night and she blew it.

"Don't be like that Ashe; it was your fault for continuing to mouth off." Henrietta laughed as she thought back. "For a second there I thought he was actually going to hit you."

"Would have served you right, picking on me like that."

"Shut up. You were being a bitch. Since Master was there I didn't get the chance to do this directly, so I'll do it now." Chesra had entered the kitchen and took a seat at the table across from the Nogitsune, setting down a small box. "I know your breed and that you can't really help the way you act. All the same, if you ever make fun of Carrie again, whether he likes it or not I will correct you. Are we understood?"

The entire room was dead silent. Everyone who had been around long enough knew, next to Kelly or Henrietta, Chesra was the last one they wanted to piss off. "Much like you, I didn't get the chance to act as I should have. When I get a moment alone with her I'm planning to apologize for what I said. Something like that is just wrong and I am sorry." She stared at the table, not finding the nerve to look at Chesra.

"That's good to hear, we in the harem have high hopes for you Jean. Now please come this way, I'll show you to the bath, and then we can take things from there."

"I thought she was getting ready to take a bath?"

"Oh let's go, this is always my favorite part." Spoke Emaline as she finished putting the last of the food away.

"You mean showing the newbies the ‘tub’; yeah the first expression never gets old."

~~~~~
The evening continued on with everyone getting a chance to meet, greet, and eat with each other though Kelly was still absent. After dinner they all moved to the viewing room to watch the gym battle. Jean had opted for another bath after the fitting and T2 information. It was going to take some time for everything to sink in but she felt better none the less.
The viewing room was a nice setup. Plenty of couches and chairs, a bar lining the wall, and a very large TV with surround sounds speakers. In addition to having the battles recorded from his pokédex, Marco also downloaded the broadcast version that the gym had. Henrietta, Chesra, and Ashley had made it a point not to give away who the winners were of the battles. By then Kelly had joined the group and took her normal seat at the end of the center couch. The second round was just starting and all were watching on the edge of their seats.
"Damn, that had to hurt. Who would have thought Carrie could be so vicious." Said Emaline as she winced in pain from the hit.
"Well she did learn from the best." Replied Henrietta while nudging the Armsmistress. "Not that Ashe did all that bad."
"Sure, but I lost."
"Yes you did, but you fought well. I hope if anything you learned not to be overconfident." Stated Kelly as she looked over to the Peekabu, who nodded in reply.
It was at that moment that Jean entered the room. Looking around she spotted the seemingly empty spot at the end of the couch and moved to take a seat. Upon closer inspection she noticed the teenager sitting in the spot.
"Hey, whose kid is this? You mind if I take this seat runt?" The video paused and the entire room was quiet. All eyes and heads slowly turned to Jean, faces in shock and some in horror. She could feel a chill run up her spine as a few of them lowered their heads. "Wha..."
Before she got a chance to finish, Kelly had reached back and grabbed the front of her blouse. Time seemed to slow down as she pulled the Nogitsune over the back of the couch and slammed her onto the table. The others looked on as she wrapped a cord around Jean’s neck, strangling the baffled girl and locking her arm behind her back with her leg.
From the side Henrietta walked up to the flailing girl. "Jean this is Major Kelly, Head of Avalanche, and the Alpha. Kelly, that's Jean, Marco's new girl we told you about. I think he would be upset if you killed her. When she can breathe again I'm sure she will apologize for being rude. Right?" Frantically she nodded as best she could, her face fading into shades of blue.
Kelly released the girl, who quickly rolled off the table clutching her neck and gasping for air. "Yes, you did tell me about her... now I wonder... what exactly did you tell her about me?" Her eyes shifted around the room, trying to find anyone willing to make eye contact. "I don't suppose anyone gave her my description?" All the heads went down and shook no. "I see, how about my not liking to be made fun of about my appearance or height?" Once again a room full of no. "So... If I had killed Marco's new girl, Jean is it? Whose fault was it going to be? And I want a vocal answer this time!" Kelly yelled just to make her point.
"Ours Ma'am!" Echoed through the room.
"Very good. Oh look, she's coming too." She reached down and propped Jean up against the table as she began to heal her. "Sorry about that, they really should have warned you ahead of time. I'm Kelly." She put her hand out to greet the girl.
On instinct alone Jean backed away, moving to the other side of the table. "Je Jea... Jean, I'm sorry I offended you. Please don't hurt me."
"Relax, you're safe. Not going to lay a hand on you. Great, now Marco is going to be pissed at me."
"They did mention to watch what I say around the Alpha, but no, I had no idea what you looked like." Shakily Jean made it to her feet and bowed in apology.
"It's ok, I've almost killed Mina on several occasions through the years. I can be a bitch, it's true, but I'm fair. I'll look forward to having you in training sessions."
"Are you and the idio... Marco close." Jean cut her insult short. For her size she didn't expect the Duelist to be so physically powerful. The last thing she wanted to do now was anger the tiny girl again.
Kelly laughed as she picked up on the retraction. "Yeah, he can be an idiot at times, but we're all very close. We're not so much a unit, or a team, or force. It's a family. We love each other, we hate each other, but we all would die for each other." Kelly finally slid off the couch and stood in front of Jean, the Nogitsune towering over the Duelist.
"So as the Alpha I guess you are either the strongest, or have been around longer than anyone else."
"Wrong." Kelly had a pretty good idea what kind of harems the Nogitsune hailed from. For most tamers and even some military, power ruled everything. "Chesra technically beats me in both categories. I got the job in a unanimous vote. Being friendly, easy to talk to, and a master tactician helped a lot though. Raw power is fine and dandy, but being able to apply it properly takes skill. Your idiot tamer knows this, and it’s one of the things he and I share."
"I think... I'm going to like this harem."
"Good, because unless you die you don't get to leave it." Said Chesra.
