Ladies and The Man With the Star:  The queens in a deck of cards are referred to as “ladies.” The joker/wildcard in the deck is referred to as “the man with the star.”

(Morning of August 1, 300 AS)

“Sara,” a thirty-eight year old male spoke on the intercom sitting on his desk. The brown haired man waited patiently for the pokégirl to respond to his Cheetit secretary. He had just gotten a report from one of the deputy directors ordering him to send one of his investigation teams out to take care of a case that had started to catch the media’s attention. He had wanted to send someone out quickly, but everyone was unavailable until today. Two days after the fact that they wanted someone, the Crescent League Investigations Supervisor thought.

“Yes Mister Stevens,” the female voice asked over the intercom.

“When did agent Lovelace get back from his last assignment?”

“Yesterday evening, Mister Stevens.”

George Stevens paused for a few seconds. “Could you send him a message that I wish to see him A.S.A.P., please?”

“No problem, Mister Stevens,” the Cheetit said. “Will that be all, Sir?”

“Yes,” the human said. As he turned the intercom off, he looked back at his computer screen. It displayed the reports that the Waveland Police Department had sent to his agency. There was not much to go on, all things considered. The only break in this case is that we got the guy’s complete description, he thought. But that doesn’t mean this thing is gonna be a cakewalk. Lovelace might actually need to do some work on this one. He and that crack team of his. George smiled to himself as he began to prepare the reports to be printed off for his subordinate. Who knows, maybe that Alaka-Wham will actually get to do something.

**********

“Oh Gods,” muttered a green haired man as he awoke to his S.C.D. beeping at him. “I thought that thing got turned off.” He reached for the device that sat on his nightstand and immediately hit the “ignore” button.

“I think that you should get that, Dear,” a soft, soothing voice stated in the human’s mind. “It could be important.”

Closing his eyes, he projected back, “It can wait. If one of us had remembered to shut that damn thing off, we wouldn’t have known about it.” The son of a Slimette put the device back on the nightstand next to the bed and looked at Nadine, the pokégirl who had sent him the suggestion. “Are you trying not to wake Maria up, or are you just using your telepathy for the pure hell of it?”

The red-skinned pokégirl smiled lightly at him. “Both perhaps. Why, don’t you like when I’m in your head?” Only one of her antenna was lifted up, but it only stood half erect.

“It’s good to know that you still have a sense of humor, Nadie. That was one of those things I was worried that you would lose.”

“And leave your dearest Maria without someone to share things with? Never…”

The two stared down at the feminine figure in-between the two. The figure was mirroring everything in the room due to its shiny metallic surface. The figure had been holding onto the green haired human and had not stirred from her sleep, even when the communications device went off and Charles moved to grab it. The figure seemed to be responding to a touch that was not present, because she smiled and began to move slowly in her sleep. It did not take Charles a lot of mental power to figure out that Nadine was using her telekinesis to slowly pet the Mercury that was sleeping. “Ah, so you still have feelings for us then?”

The Alaka-Wham looked up at her tamer and leered. “Don’t read too much into that…Dear.”

The human smiled and decided to change the subject. “So where are Yuzuko and Celina?”

“Yuzuko went down to the gun range…again…and Celina left to go to the ‘Center.”

Charles tensed up for a second, but tried to relax. “Is she still hurting from that last mission? She seemed fine last night.”

The pokégirl started to giggle dryly, almost cackle, in the human’s mind, “She’s fine; she just wanted to get in a little more sparing before we got shipped out again.”

The son of a Slimette looked at the E-cup pokégirl with a raised eyebrow. “You know something that I don’t, my Ladybug?” He grinned as he projected the last word.

The Alaka-Wham frowned, “I’m NOT a bug. I don’t know why you call me that all the time. Just because I have antennas and I’m red, doesn’t mean I look like one. And to answer your question, she wasn’t too happy with her performance in that last fight.”

“She did fine,” Charles projected. “What is she striving for, perfection?”

The busty gave him a small smile. “She just wants you to be proud of her, can’t you figure that out?”

“I AM proud of her,” he projected to the pokégirl. Charles looked down at the Mercury, who was still sleeping, and rubbed her cheek with his hand. She stirred slightly, but remained in her sleep. “I don’t know why she just can’t accept that.”

“There are just some things that you will never understand about pokégirls, sweetie.” Lowering her antenna back down so that the bulb was touching the back of her head, she lifted up her hand and the S.C.D. hovered in the air. Slowly, it made its way to the psychic’s hand and she grabbed it. “I’ll send a message that you will be in Stevens’ office within two hours. Think you can make that?”

Charles continued to look down at the Mercury and smiled. “That depends if I can get an uneventful shower and get into my uniform without being ambushed.”

(Afternoon of August 1, 300 AS, Present Time)

“What did I do wrong now,” Joe asked the upset NurseJoy, who was standing in front of him. The group had gotten a room at the Pokécenter and went straight to it. When they entered, Jade had ordered her owner to sit in the room’s computer chair and face her. He did as he was told, slightly upset that he was about to be grilled from such a beautiful woman in front of three other ones.

“What do you mean, ‘what did I do wrong?’ You beat that poor boy up, and in front of everyone! That kid must have just gotten his license when we were back in Bristol, and you beat him up twice! What in the Hell is the matter with you? Is this normal in your world?”

“Can everyone else leave the room,” Joe asked.

“Well, I need to be with you at all times,” Jennifer explained. “So I can’t leave.”

“You can wait outside,” Joe rebutted. “It’s not like I’m going anywhere. You two, can you go check the place out?” The question he had directed toward the two cat-types that were in the room.

“Sure,” Alia agreed. “Come on, Mabella.” Alia turned away from the group and walked toward the door. Mabella stared at the white coated Catgirl with an unsure look on her face. Alia turned and looked at the blonde-haired Firecat and growled, “Ma…BELLA!”

Mabella’s ears lowered along with her head. “Oookay…” The Firecat followed her Alpha out of the room, but they left the door open.

Joe and Jade looked at Jennifer, who was still standing in the room. Sighing slightly, the OfficerJenny closed her eyes, turned, and walked out of the room. As the pokégirl left the room, she shut the door behind her. Joe looked back at the NurseJoy, who had turned back toward him and had begun leering at him. Fucking great, Joe thought. Nothing like getting bitched out by Jade. I do whatever I can for her, and she still pisses and moans that I did it wrong. “Well, you wanna get started on this, or…?”

Jade continued to leer at the human without changing her expression. A few seconds later, the pink-haired female spoke. “You don’t think that there is anything wrong with what you did, did you?”

“No, not really,” Joe said matter-of-factly. “He was the one picking the fight with me, remember?”

“THAT’S NOT THE POINT AND YOU KNOW IT!” Jade screamed. “You could have been seriously hurt! You could have seriously hurt him! What if he died?! You’d be thrown in jail! You need to be more careful from now on Den…Joe.” Jade looked away, slightly embarrassed that he had almost called Joe by her former tamer’s name. “You’re not in the ‘wild west’ anymore; you can’t just attack and beat up anyone you want.”

Joe stood up from his chair and took one step towards Jade. Standing less than a foot away from her, Jade’s master whispered coldly, “I’m not from the ‘wild west,’ and I’ll say it again. That prick called me out. Or did you forget that?”

Jade looked back at the male, trying to hide her worry with anger, “No, Joe. I didn’t forget. But just because someone decides that they want to have a pokébattle with us, doesn’t give you the right to start beating them up. There are laws that you need to follow.”

Joe grabbed the NurseJoy’s arm. He did not want to hurt or startle the pokégirl, but he caused the latter to occur. “I know that there are rules to follow, but that little piece of shit wasn’t gonna let me get away. I didn’t want you ‘girls to get hurt, so I decided to deal with the problem myself.”

“That’s not the way things are here, Joe,” Jade retorted. “We are the ones who are supposed to protect you, not the other way around. Can’t you understand that?”

“I wasn’t in any danger.”

“You could have been.” The two stared at each other without saying anything for a few seconds. Joe walked past the pink-haired pokégirl and headed for the door. With a worried look in her eyes, Jade cried out in an almost shrill voice, “Where are you going?”

“Out,” Joe said as he opened the door.

“WHERE?!”

“I’ll be back later,” Joe answered as he walked out the door and closed it behind him.

Jade just stood in the room alone for a few seconds in disbelief. She walked to the door and reached out for the handle, but her hand never made it. It remained suspended within the air, not getting any closer to where she intended for it to go. Feeling tears forming around her eyes, she returned her hand back to her chest. Turning toward the bed, she fell upon it and began to weep.

**********

Joe turned to the OfficerJenny leaning against the wall with a blank expression on her face. “Well, c’mon then,” he said as he started walking down the hall toward the outdoor arena of the Pokécenter.

Jennifer began to follow him, but turned around and looked back at the room. “Will we be going to get Alia and Mabella, Mister Holten?”

“No,” Joe said. “I want some alone time, and being with you will be the closest I get to that.” The human continued to walk down the hallway without looking back at either the door or the pokégirl.

The OfficerJenny followed him down the hall, not saying a word to him as they walked. When the pair arrived outside, they came to the arena, which appeared to be nothing unique or special than any other. There were two people using it for a pokébattle, which to Jennifer appeared to be a 2 vs. 2 matchup. A few meters away from the arena, there were benches available for spectators. The pokégirl followed the human toward the benches and watched him sit down on one. Jennifer approached him and asked, “Do you wish for some company, or would you rather sit by yourself?”

Joe looked up at her for a few seconds and harshly responded, “I don’t care.”

Jennifer looked at him for a few more seconds, trying to figure out exactly what he wanted, but gave up and sat on the same bench as him on the opposite end. The two stared out at the pokébattle that had already begun. Mercury noticed what breeds the four were right away. On the team that was owned by the tamer on the left side of her, there was a Charmelons and a Digtit. The tamer on the right was using a Frostwhelp and a Skunkette. Although the match had been going on for a minute or so, based on the large clock located on the wall of the Pokécenter, Jennifer assessed it was looking as though it was far from over. The officer looked over at her companion when she heard a small sigh.

“You know,” Joe started. “I keep finding myself wondering when it’s all gonna set in.”

“When what ‘all sets in?’”

“This,” Joe pointed at the four pokégirls fighting harshly in the arena. “I’ve been in this world for…fooor…Christ; I can’t even remember when I showed up to this place. I mean, I see it happening in front of me, but I just can’t wrap my head around it. I’m in the Pokégirl World.” Jennifer did not say anything, wondering if she should say anything to him or not, but Joe started to speak again. “Back where I come from, they don’t have anything like this. All the stuff that even comes close to this is completely fiction. I’m living the dream of hundreds? Thousands of people? People who know much more about this place than I do.

“For instance, those pokégirls that we are looking at right now, I have not a clue what breeds they are.” Mercury saw Joe point to the arena. “I know that one is a fire-type, and that’s a dragon-type, but I have not a clue about the others. Any tamer that is a native to this place would be able to tell you, but not me. I would almost bet my bottom dollar…I guess you’d call it a credit here, wouldn’t you?” He looked at the blue-haired pokégirl with a small smirk, but she made no effort to return the humor. “My bottom credit that a Titmouse would be able to take me on in a fight. I’m probably the weakest thing in this city right now.” Joe turned his face back towards the match.

“What happened with that one guy, I just got lucky. That kid was younger and had zero experience in any type of fighting. That and rotten luck. Even when I look at all the things that you ‘girls can do, I still forget that I need to let you handle all the dangerous stuff. I need to drop this ‘macho man’ mentality, and realize that there is no way that I can succeed the same way that I did back in my world. Everything is just way too different.”

Mercury waited to see if Joe was going to say anything else, but when he remained silent, she spoke. “I guess this is all different for you, isn’t it? You’re used to having everything be equal, both men and women I mean. I read books and saw old movies about what things were like before we were created, so I think I have a good idea of what it was like. I guess I never really thought about what things are like for you with this whole thing.”

“Well, it’s not like I want to go broadcasting it either.”

“I, uh…” Jennifer looked down at the ground, unsure if she should say anything to her temporary taming custodian. “I…was listening in…on, the conversation. The one that…you and Jade were just having.”

Joe turned and looked at her. After a few seconds he said, “Well, I guess you know one of the roots of the harem’s problems are then, huh?”

Jennifer looked up at him, “Yeah. They still see you as their late tamer, Mister Holten.”

The male took in a breath, “Yeah, they do. And every time I don’t act the way I should, no…the way he would have done it, I get a lecture. It’s just…It’s just seems like they just can’t accept me for who I am. Don’t get me wrong, Mercury; I’m more than grateful for everything that they’ve done for me. If it wasn’t for them, I’d probably be dead outside of that one town I was in.

“But I just can’t stop thinking that they will never accept me for who I am. They want me to be like him. Why can’t they accept me for being me?” Joe winced a little bit and looked back at the arena. The pokégirl continued to look at the male for a few more seconds, but turned to the arena to the pokébattle. Jennifer was surprised that the match was over, and that the two tamers had already left. She glanced around to see if any other tamers were set up to go next, but there was no one else around.

“It’s hard to let go of someone you love…when you’ve lost them,” the OfficerJenny said. “I don’t think that I’ll ever get over Jerry. If I were to have someone to even look and act like him, I’d consider myself really lucky.” Mercury looked down at her feet, afraid that she was going to cry in front of Joe again. After giving herself a moment or two, she continued.

“All that pokégirls have in this world are their owners. When they lose theirs, one that’s really great, they worry about what kind of life they will live afterwards. Your ‘girls lost the most significant person in their lives and they’ve been given a second chance. I think that they want to forget about the entire incident that occurred. Maybe when you go back, you shouldn’t say anything to them about being mad. Just try to forget about all this unpleasantness and we can have a nice evening for the night. Does that sound good?”

Joe continued to sit on the bench staring out at the empty arena. Jennifer looked back at the arena and the two sat in silence. After two minutes, Joe stood up and said, “Well…let’s go back and see if everyone wants to have dinner. Sound good to you?”

Jennifer smiled and stood up. The two walked side by side as they entered the Pokécenter building to meet up with the harem.

(Noon of August 1, 300 AS)

“You wanted to see me, Chief?” A green-haired human male stood in the doorway of George Stevens’ office. George’s subordinate arrived to the office a couple of hours after he had sent him the message. The young looking agent had his signature smirk on his face and was in his full uniform.
No surprise there, the Lieutenant Supervisor thought. “Lovelace, what I surprise. I thought for sure that you would come in after lunch. I guess that assignment wasn’t too tough for ya, uh?”

“Meh,” Charles said in a cocky fashion. “It was a case. I didn’t even use Nadie, so it was easy. What did you want to see me about?”

“I wanted to see that pretty-boy face of yours,” George said in his monotone voice and without changing the blank expression on his face.

“Weeell,” Lovelace responded. “I didn’t think that was the way your ranch door swung. You’d better tell Sara out there. No need to let her go to waste on a guy who loves that type of pokégirl.” Charles ended the sentence with a bright smile.

“Okay…okay. Stop with the jokes, Jokette. You got another assignment. I want you to get your ass to Waveland by 9 am tomorrow. You got a meeting with Captain Morrison of the Police Department out there. You know the drill, so get the Hell out of here.” George looked back down to his computer and went back to what he was doing. “If there are no questions, you’re excused.”

“I can stay at the place’s best hotel and penthouse, right?”

George did not look up from his monitor, “I wasn’t aware you made that much, Lovelace. I’ll talk to payroll to have your salary take a cut.” When he heard the agent walk away, he opened his intercom channel. “Sara, what do you want to eat for lunch…and I better not hear ‘you.’”

(Afternoon of August 1, 300 AS, Present Time)

“It’s nice you see that you two made up,” Alia remarked as she looked at her pink-haired harem sister and tamer sitting next to each other. The five of them were eating in the cafeteria of the Pokécenter, along with at least a dozen other harems. When Alia and Mabella got back from their walk, the two saw the older pokégirl and their owner holding one another. The Catgirl knew that Jade had been crying, since her face was all puffy and flushed, and decided not to ask what the reason was. There was no use in bring up any problems that had already been solved. “I didn’t know what we’d do if you two didn’t. It would have been an awkward night.”

“I guess I would have had a sleeping buddy, huh?” Jennifer joked lightly, trying to keep the tension from coming back.

“Well,” Joe said. “We don’t know if the staff will move a cot in the room for you. All we can do is ask.”

The blue-haired pokégirl frowned slightly, but continued to eat her meal. The officer was eating a Kattleloaf and potatoes, with a cup of 6 Up. When Joe heard the name, he actually chuckled a little bit. The Catgirl smiled when she heard him. It had seemed like an eternity since he had seen her master happy, even though it had been only about a couple of hours before. She was finally glad that the good mood was finally starting to come back.

“How do you like your fish, Mabella?” Jade asked the Firecat. The blonde had gotten the fish and coleslaw with a cup of Ocean Breeze. She had made sure that she could get a few more strips of fish for free before she left the counter.

“It’s good,” the Firecat exclaimed. “The coleslaw is a little good, but it least it tastes okay with the fish. It doesn’t ruin the favor that much.” The blonde smiled. “Do you want to get the fish too, Jade-y?”

The NurseJoy was eating a salad with Silver Islands Dressing, along with some wheat bread. “With all that grease and breading that the cooks put into it? No, thank you.” She looked over at her tamer as if she was going to say something, but grabbed her cup of orange juice and took a sip. “Dear, would it be possible for us to buy some of this for when we travel? I want you to get enough of your vitamins.”

Joe, who was eating Kattleloaf with potato soup, gave the pokégirl a questioning look. “How will we be able to preserve it so it won’t go bad? And doesn’t orange juice need to be cold to taste good too? I’m not drinking warm OJ.” The human grabbed his cup of Ocean Breeze, which reminded him of a mix between Mountain Dew and a Rockstar energy drink, and looked around the cafeteria. He did not see the young tamer from before around, so that was very good news for him. The off-world human did not want to start “Round Three” with the kid. After his quick, three second glance around the room, his eyes once again met Jade’s green ones.

“Well,” Alia explained, after she had finished swallowing her fish. “We can collect a few small bags of ice from the machines in the hall. We can then put them into a poképack, which will save it in its frozen form. We can then do the same with the juice so it won’t spoil. Whenever you need to get a drink, get it out of the ‘pack and just put it back right away so it will last longer.”

Joe thought about it for a while, the entire time looking at Jade. “Okay, I guess we could do that. It’d sure beat drinking water all the time. Is there anything else we should get while we’re in town?”

“I’ll look at the inventory before we go to bed tonight,” Alia answered. “That way, two of us can get the supplies while the other three can go to the station tomorrow.”

“No,” Joe suddenly said. “We all stay together. I don’t want us to be separated from each other. I don’t want anything to happen to anyone while we are in this town.”

The group sat in silence for a few seconds, not even continuing to eat their meals. “If that is what you want, Den-Mar,” the white Catgirl said softly. “We can stay in a large group while we are here; it will not be a problem.”

“And another thing,” Joe addressed the OfficerJenny. “I have a question for you.”

Jennifer waited for the human to ask it. When he did not say anything, she asked, “Yes? What is it?”

“What is it gonna take for me to change my name?”

The pokégirl looked at him for a few seconds, “I don’t understand.”

“This guy that we are after, this copy or whatever he is, of me. He knows my name, but not my name here. He doesn’t know Den-Mar’s name. I want to keep it that way. I don’t want him going after Tina, or Den-Mar’s dad, or any aunts that Den-Mar had. I want to keep them safe. In order to do that, I got to change my name.

“The other reason I want to change it is for him to be able to find us. He knows I’m Joe Trades, so it’ll be baiting him to come for us. So, I’m asking you, what does it take for me to change my name?”

The OfficerJenny thought for about a minute, sipping her drink a couple of times. Finally, she said, “I suppose it would need to be done at a Pokécenter. However, you would need to have someone from the league government to actually approve it. I don’t think that someone would grant you that favor, though.”

Joe looked down at his Ocean Breeze. “I thought it’d end up being something like that. I just hope that someone can authorize it for me. Do you think the Chief of Police in this town could, Jennifer?”

Mercury continued to look at Joe, “I’m not sure. Probably not, but they might be able to convince someone in the government that you needed to go undercover. I just don’t see how you could get the Chief to do that though.”

Joe sighed, “Damn. I just hope that sick fuck doesn’t plan anything to get back at Den-Mar’s family. Well, if everyone is finished, let’s go back to the room.”

**********

“I’m just saying, Nadie, if they don’t have anything I want, I’m going to a restaurant.” Two figures began to materialize inside the Waveland Pokécenter’s lobby. “I’ll just remember to keep the receipts and get reimbursed later. It’ll be no big deal.” The two figures made the NurseJoy jump for a second, but she scolded herself for being startled.

Of course they’d be coming here, she thought. That Alaka-Wham just transported back to get her tamer. Stop being such a Chickenlittle! The short, pink-haired NurseJoy relaxed in her chair behind the desk. I’ll begin setting up a room check-in for him. The pokégirl opened up the Pokécenter’s room registration as the two finished their transportation. The NurseJoy found herself looking at a slightly older male, at least order than she was used to seeing, with green hair. He was wearing a uniform, but the pokégirl did not recognize what it was for. She saw the badge shine off of the man’s left breast, but the engravings were too far away for her to read. The badge was in the shape of a seven point star.

When the man looked in her direction, he smiled and walked up to her. The Alaka-Wham who teleported him followed his lead. She was wearing the same uniform as he was, except that hers seemed to be much tighter in the chest area. Of course it would be, the pink-haired pokégirl thought. She’s at least a double D!

“Actually,” a seductive voice whispered in the NurseJoy’s head. “I’m an F. This uniform helps keep everything from being too boasting.”

The NurseJoy was listening so intently to the voice, that he had not noticed that the male had asked her something. When her attention got back to the human, he was staring at her. “Oh, uh, I’m sorry. Could you repeat that, Sir?”

“I asked, ‘Could I get a room,’” he asked again, but in a kind undertone. “Please.”

“Uh, yes,” the pokégirl said as she looked at the registry. “We do have a room for you. I’ll need your ‘Dex and then I can register you in.”

“Well,” the human said. “I don’t have a ‘Dex, but this should work.” He handed the pokégirl a S.C.D. “That should be just as good.”

“Uh, yes Sir,” the nurse said. After registering Charles Lovelace into the Pokécenter as a guest, she stated, “Here is your key and it will be on the hallway to your right.” The pokégirl handed the male his keycard and his S.C.D. back. “Will there be anything else this evening, Sir?”

“Yeah,” the green-haired human responded. “You got any good restaurants that are around this place?”

“Well…there is…”

“I’m sorry, Miss,” the red pokégirl interrupted, using her telepathic abilities. “But we will not be requiring any restaurants tonight. In which direction is your cafeteria located in?”

The NurseJoy remained silent with a nervous look upon her face, unsure about what to do about the situation that she was in. The human saved her the trouble of having to decide between the two. He looked at the red pokégirl with a scowl, “I don’t wanna eat cafeteria food.”

“Well, you’re not gonna waste your money on food. We’ll be paid back for the ‘Center’s food, so we’ll eat that.”

Charles frowned, but turned to the NurseJoy and asked in a sulking manner, “Where is your cafeteria?”

“It’s down the hallway and toward the center of the building. There are signs so you can’t miss it.” The pink-haired pokégirl smiled at both of the uniformed individuals. She watched the two walk off towards the right hallway and let out a breath. She decided to look in the computer at the man’s name again. Hmm, Agent Charles Lovelace. What kind of a guy are you? The nurse opened up her news browser and started searching the agent’s name.

**********

“Captain Morrison,” Charles Lovelace greeted the Denmother as he entered her office the next morning. Extending out his hand to the pokégirl, he introduced himself. “My name is Agent Charles Lovelace. These figures of perfection behind me are Celina and Nadie, my teammates. Now, what do you say we get this meeting done? I’m sure you got more serious stuff to do, right?”

Captain Morrison shook the human’s hand and nodded to the two other pokégirls. “Sure, Agent Lovelace. Let’s get this over as quick as possible. I don’t want take up anymore of your time either. Do you have the reports that I sent to your agency?” The Denmother motioned the green-haired human to sit in the chair in front of her desk while Morrison sat down in hers.

“Yes, Ma‘am,” Charles said, patting his S.C.D. “I got ‘em all in here. Read through ‘em too last night.”

“So then you know that we got one sick son of a Whorizard out there running loose. And on top of that, the guy was with a Mini-Top. All the two really need now is a Dark Lady with them and then we’ll all be up shit creek.”

“Bah,” the C.L.I.B. agent retorted. “You’re worrying too much. There’s no way that a Dark Lady will just roll over for a prick and a Bunnygirl gone bad. Maybe she’ll do us all a favor and take care the problem for us, uh?” Lovelace smiled at the Denmother.

The Denmother remained silent for a few seconds. Finally, she said, “You’re not like the other agents that I’ve dealt with, Lovelace.”

“Is that a good thing?”

“I haven’t decided yet,” the Denmother said slowly. “I don’t like surprises.”

“I guess that’s a ‘no’ then, cap,” Charles smiled. “‘Cause I’m full of ‘em!”

Morrison continued to stare at the agent. “Well, let me ask you this. Do you like surprises?”

“Only good ones.”

“Well, I think I got a ‘good one’ for you.” Morrison opened her desk drawer. After opening a folder, she pulled out a piece of paper and slid it across her desk towards the C.L.I.B. agent. “I think you’ll like that gem. I’ve been trying to wrap my head around it for days.”

Charles looked at the paper for a minute or two. Finally, he answered, “This looks like a DNA comparison.”

Morrison nodded, “It is. The first one is our suspect; the second one is Mister Holten’s.”

“These samples are…what? Ninety-nine percent identical? So he’s got a twin running around doing all the stuff? Do you really think evil twins exist, Morrison?”

The Denmother continued to stare at the agent, “No, I don’t Agent Lovelace. Look at the pokégirl ancestry. What do our two boys share in common, what lines?”

Lovelace continued to share at the sheet. Frowning, he shook his head, “There must be a mistake with your equipment, Captain Morrison. This is not possible.”

Captain Morrison shook her head and replied, “There are no mistakes and the equipment is working fine. We checked it as soon as we got those results.”

“Well, there must be a mistake somewhere. According to these results, not only are two men almost exactly the same person, genetically, but they are both Purebloods?” The two pokégirls behind Charles fidgeted a little from what their owner had just said.

“But wait, Agent Lovelace,” Morrison responded. “It gets a whole Hell of a lot better. Mister Holten is not from this league, as you well know. Therefore, when he came over, he was DNA tested before he was given his ‘Dex and his taming license transferred. At the time, he was not a Pureblood when he came over from Capital.” The Denmother leaned back into her chair and continued to watch the puzzlement on the agent’s face. “So…Agent Lovelace of the Crescent League Investigations Bureau, what happened to our tamer Den-Mar Holten…that was able to change him into a Pureblood?”

**********

“Uh,” Joe groaned as he walked up the stairs of the police station. It was roughly Noon and he was tired and hungry from the shopping that everyone did. No, he thought. That’s wrong. Everyone but me. When the group went to the pokéshop, Joe expected it to be a small, family shop like the one in Waveland that he went to. It turned out, that this one was a major shop within the area. So instead of getting the supplies that they needed, the group started shopping for what they wanted.

Officer Mercury saw some items that she was interested in, but put them back, since she still owed Joe the money for her equipment. When Joe saw the disappointed look on her face, he had sighed and whispered to her, “Just get what you want, everyone else is. Just remember to pay me back later.” The pokégirl’s face lit up and Joe had thought she was going to hug or kiss him. After the two hour shopping spree, Joe wanted to go back to the Pokécenter and nap. But, he knew he needed to get a list of bounties that the city was putting out for troublesome ferals. We can’t keep spending money without an income, he thought. I mean we could get regular ferals and sell them, but this way, we can get more credits by cleaning up problem ‘girls.

When the group got to the double doors of the police station, Joe turned to Jennifer and asked, “Should I follow your lead or…?”

Officer Mercury thought for a few seconds and responded, “Yes, I think that you should follow me in. But try to stay as close to me as you can. We wouldn’t want any trigger-happy Growlies attacking you, would we?” The OfficerJenny ended that question with a smirk.

Slightly leering at the blue-haired pokégirl, Joe followed her closely with his harem taking the rear. The police station’s lobby was like the one back in Waveland, so much so that it surprised the new tamer a little. Joe followed the OfficerJenny up to the desk, which had a quite attractive human-looking pokégirl behind it. “Excuse me, Miss. I am Officer Jennifer Mercury from Waveland. This is Mister Den-Mar Holten behind me. We are ordered by the Crescent League Investigations Bureau to report to every precinct that we come across. Mister Holten, will you please hand them your handheld ‘Dex device?”

Joe did as he was told and the pokégirl from behind the desk started to register it into their databanks. “Oh, Miss…Linda. Could you download a list of all the troublesome pokégirls in this area that have bounties on them?”

The receptionist nodded and continued to work with the pokédex device. Just before the pokégirl handed to device back to the human, a door that lead deeper inside the station slammed open. The six people in the lobby turned in alarm at the sudden event, worrying about what they should do. The two cat-types got into a fighting stance and the NurseJoy moved slowly towards the wall. The two officers went for their guns, but Joe just jumped from being startled and was caught completely off guard. Everyone was staring at a green-haired human male, wearing a uniform that Joe did not recognize from anywhere.

The human stood in the doorway, panting hard as if he had just run a few laps on a track field. The green-haired human grabbed his chest and started to slow his breathing. He took in a breath, and asked, “Are you Den-Mar Holten?”

Joe looked at the uniformed human curiously, a little nervous about answering. “Yeah…why? Who’s asking?”

The green-haired man smiled, still struggling to catch his breath. “Thank the Goddesses…I thought I’d missed you.” The man regained his posture and walked over to the group. When he got in front of Joe, he stopped and put out his hand. “Agent Charles Lovelace, of the Crescent League Investigations Bureau. I have a few questions for you that I’d really like to get answers for.”

ALAKA-WHAM, the Psychic Powerhouse Pokégirl
Type: Near Human
Element: Psychic
Frequency: Very Rare
Diet: human style food
Role: security, often with administrators or researchers. Also make excellent Alphas
Libido: Average (higher with high-Empathy Tamers)
Strong Vs: Fighting, Poison, Psychic
Weak Vs: Bug, Dark, Ghost
Attacks: Teleport, Telepathy, Telekinesis, limited Precognition, Healing, Barrier, Psychic, Psywave
Enhancements: High psi capabilities, Enhanced Intelligence (x15), highly developed nervous system
Evolves: None
Evolves From: Ka-D-Bra (normal)

Alaka-Whams continue the growth begun when they became Ka-D-Bras, gaining a few inches in height for a maximum height of 6'0. Their skin (once again sans antennae) darkens to a deep red, and their antennae max out at nearly a foot in length. Many Alaka-Whams keep their antennae back, flat against their head, unless actively wielding their psychic powers. Their bust also increases, usually upwards on an E-cup. Their breasts are so large, in fact, that their frail bodies can't support the weight without assistance. Alaka-Whams rely on constant, low-level telekinesis to help support the weight of their massive chests.

Their powers also increase dramatically, giving them a wide variety of Psychic attacks, defenses, and support abilities. Using Telepathy and Precognition to stay one (or more) steps ahead of their opponents, they use Barrier and Teleport to avoid any attacks their opponent conceives of throwing at them. They usually overwhelm their opponents fairly quickly using a combination of Telekinesis, Psychic, and Psywave.

Though always viewed with some suspicion, it wasn't until Mao's Rebellion that active distrust was a factor in modern times. The baseline mistrust comes largely from jealousy of their extreme intelligence. Their typical IQ is about 500, though some exceptional individuals can be even higher. This intelligence leads them to a rivalry of sorts with the Supe-Bra Genius, who they view as intellectual equals. However, the Supe-Bra Genius's wide assortment of mental instabilities is a point of contempt, with the Alaka-Wham seeing them as erratic and inefficient.

A Pokégirl that was once considered extinct, she was originally used alongside Tank Vixxen types during Sukube’s War in order to provide ranged support until their partners could successfully breach human weapon platforms, such as APCs and Tanks, and turn them against the humans. After the war, because of their success during it, humans hunted them down until none could actually be found anywhere in the world. It wasn't until around 88 AS that the first Guntit Pokékit was born, to the surprise of her mother, who was a GunValkyrie. Since then, and ever since the tech-type Pokégirls have been breeding, this breed has come back into existence. Breeding program in most leagues have resulted in almost an over-saturation of these pokegirls, and by 220 AS the Guntit had become Rare. By modern-day (300 AS or so), they are now Uncommon throughout the world. Researchers believe that the main reasons for this is that the Guntit is amazingly adept at the creation of projectile weapons, and many today are used in the manufacturing, repairs, and maintenance of such weapons throughout the world. Even on pirate ships, they have been documented as taking care of the cannons that are mounted on them.

These Pokégirls are being introduced into police forces throughout the world as a result of their capacity with projectile weapons. Like their evolved state, the Guntit possess energy weapons, but only one, and are also are very competent with handguns, rifles, shotguns, and other weapons that the police use. Most police stations employ at least one Guntit in a maintenance role, if not several in active duty roles that also include what was once known as SWAT teams in pre-Sukebe times. This breed get along well with OfficerJennies and Growlies, although for the most part are embarrassed at how touchy-feely a Growlie can become towards them, especially in the midst of a mission.

The Guntit look much like human females, though they prefer to wear skin-tight armor over their bodies. However, their left or right arm, depending on which hand they favor, can change into an energy weapon that is akin to the pulse weapons humans used during the Revenge War. This energy weapon extends from their elbow to where the tips of her fingers might reach, and look like a gun-barrel. However, Researchers have discovered that the weapon is actually a plasma cannon that gets its power directly from the Pokegirl’s small plasma reactor core. Using this often wears the Guntit out unless they train often, and so they tend to use standard projectile weapons instead until they manage to train enough to be able to use their plasma cannon as often as needed.

Guntit make for completely lousy sex battlers, and instead they focus on their normal combat skills, which are far greater in capacity. They can even power up their main technique, the Plasma Blast, using the Plasma Charge technique without using any additional stores of their energy, although while charging she cannot use any other technique. She can also reload any weapon within seconds, assuming that she has the ammunition required to do so. However, because of her reliance upon her projectile weapon skills, the Guntit do not normally bother learning hand-to-hand combat skills... And as such, are completely at any martial artist Pokégirl’s mercy. Some human martial artists have even been known to defeat Guntits that don't wear armor, which have led to rumors throughout the world that humans are gaining on Pokégirls in terms of capabilities.

This researcher suggests that any tamers that think that they can take on any average pokegirl be sent to a psychiatrist for a mental evaluation ASAP.

MERCURY, the Liquid Metal Pokégirl
Type: Humanoid
Element: Steel
Frequency: Rare
Diet: Liquids
Role: Combat, Espionage
Libido: Average
Strong Vs: Bug, Dark, Dragon, Flying, Ghost, Ice, Normal, Plant, Poison, Psychic, Rock, Steel
Weak Vs: Electric, Fighting, Fire, Ground
Attacks: Slash, Metal Wheel, Tackle, Hammer, Metal Wrap, Harden, Morphic Quickturn, Rare Metal Fist, Morphic Blades
Enhancements: Malleable body, Enhanced Strength (x2), Enhanced Endurance (x5), can reabsorb severed limbs
Evolves: Viepra (Venom Stone)
Evolves From: Stretchymaid (Heavy Metal)

Mercurys were accidentally discovered during a raid on a research facility. Members of the Limbec Pirates attacked the facility, an explosion from a power cable knocking a pair of Stretchymaids that were working at the laboratory into a room stocked with evolution stones. A pair of Heavy Metals came into contact with them, and their bodies changed, giving them greater powers and allowing them to fight back and defeat the two Dronza attacking their Tamers.

The body of a Mercury takes the 'reflective' nature of a Stretchymaid's body a step and a half further, being composed of a smooth, fluid, non-toxic, metallic-seeming substance that allows them to take a liquid form and reconstitute into almost any shape they wish, including their normal one Their hair remains a normal color, although their body and eyes become totally silver in appearance. Mercurys can shape-shift into other Pokégirls, as a Titto can, although they cannot mimic that Pokégirls coloring or powers if they are not physical ones. As such, Mercurys prefer to remain in their natural form. They lose some stretchiness, but make up for it in sheer versatility of attacks, their bodies capable of morphing into a variety of weapons, as well as the ability to restore severed limbs by simply reabsorbing them and shaping them back to the way they were before being severed.

Mercurys, personality-wise, tend to be more meek and shy when compared to their past evolutions. They are very self-conscious about their metallic appearance and the fact that their bodies creak when they are totally solid, tending to act as wallflowers most of the time, their shyness surpassed only by a Penance or a Shymaiden and her evolutions.

In terms of Taming, they are submissives, making them the favorite Steel-type of Domina-type Pokégirls. Interestingly enough, while the Mercury appears totally metallic, once they become Pokéwomen, they are apparently organic enough to be capable of producing children normally. This feature is being considered similar to that of Rock-type Pokégirls whose bodies don't seem to be organic as well.

PIROUETTE, the Trained Under the Raging Sea Pokégirl

Evolves From: Tomboy (devotion to martial arts, dream stone)

For whatever reason, a Pirouette is a martial artist to the core. Her ki itself is a whirlpool, as if to draw in all the energy and experience around her. Feral pirouettes are often found challenging the mighty undefeatable sea to simply increase their skills, and are interesting in that they seem to lose their intelligence, but not their thirst for competition. As such, they often wander around, searching for Pokégirls to challenge and hone their skills against. Although not particularly common, Pirouettes are highly prized because they serve as excellent part of a team for those who want to challenge the leagues or other contests, as their motivation and determination are difficult to match.

Physically, Pirouettes are like humans; it can be difficult to tell them apart without contact. Their bodies, however, are almost always damp to the extent that dry skin is usually a sign of ill health. They usually have blue-gray eyes, but oceanic blue or green aren’t uncommon either, and the hair of a Pirouette has an almost silky quality to it due to her dampness. The actual colors of this hair vary, but blue and black are the most oft-seen.

Because of the wetness that surrounds her body, the touch of a Pirouette’s skin has often been compared to the effects of the “Eternal Softness” technique. It also doesn’t usually take much effort to arouse a Pirouette enough to make penetration comfortable, but the breed as a whole tends to be skittish about intimate affairs. They can be quite submissive unless they view the act as part of some challenge (which is not uncommon), in which case the Pirouette will become much more sexually aggressive. For the most part, they are inclined enough to bisexuality to be suitable for tamers of either gender.

Pirouettes are almost never found feral, likely due to the fact that most come from threshold Girls who have an ancestry of water and fighting. It is also possible for a Tomboy to evolve into a Pirouette with enough dedication to Martial Arts and a Dream Stone. However since Pirouettes will do near anything to win a challenge or sharpen her skills, It's rare to find a tomboy who is willing to humiliate herself just to get a little bit better. Dream stones are also hard to come by, making this evolutionary route relatively traveled.

The ki inside of a Pirouette flows in a special pattern, seeming to ignore the actual body and form a whirlpool around her. This special feature is distinct, and it can be sensed by someone who can sense ki, but is otherwise unnoticeable. Its form allows Pirouettes to draw in ki in a more efficient manner so that they recharge their reserves, making recovery much quicker for them.
