Chapter 10: The Long Anticipated Rescue?

3 Hours until the Planned Rescue: Brig of the Bloody Dagger
The weather had taken a turn for the worse within the last few hours. For the past half a week it had been nothing but smooth sailing, or so Melanie had told them when she had brought in their food about an hour or so ago.

The ship was constantly being buffeted by waves, and the sound of the howling wind was clearly audible from below deck. The ship was rocking back and forth enough that a certain Author was beginning to feel sea sick. What was even more disconcerting than the current weather conditions, was the fact that he had been informed by the Psi-dyke, that the Sanctuary Goth that he referred to as “Grimmy” was going to come back and begin questioning him once more. She had not said when this would happen, just that she had been told to retrieve him, when she was ordered to do so.

Now, he found the fact that she was telling him this entire great and all, but he was beginning to wonder why she was being so loose lipped about it. What did she gain from telling him all of this? And she’d more than likely get in trouble right?

Corren began to wonder if perhaps Melanie the Psi-dyke was more than just a dissatisfied Pokegirl pirate, and if perhaps she was working for someone other than the Limbecs as well.

‘Well…it is a possibility, hell anything is possible in this world. But I have to wonder just who the hell these Mutual Allies are? Who could hate the Limbecs so much that they would side with the Scarlet Devil and Yukari Yakumo? Granted there are quite a few people both human and Pokegirl that hate the Limbecs guts, but who could these Allies be? ’Corren pondered this as he tried to focus on anything other than the slight nausea he felt from the sudden increase in turbulence that this sudden storm had brought.

Meiling had once again fallen asleep, seemingly oblivious to the near constant rocking of the ship, as well as the racket caused by the storm. He honestly wasn’t surprised though, unless she sensed that someone was going to attack her in her sleep, Meiling would probably sleep through anything.

The other occupant of the Brig, the Tesslass known only as “Sparky”, had been silent for the most part, he had told her that he would explain what he could later. Corren had told her that he would make sure that she was also rescued whenever these “familiar faces” decided to show up.

It was as he was contemplating the identity of these “Mutual Allies” that he came to a conclusion and honestly felt like smacking his forehead if he were able to, at not immediately realizing who these Allies were. It was so obvious, now that he thought about it. How in the heck could he have not realized it was the Neo Legendary Trio right off the bat?

‘Honestly, it’s so obvious it’s almost painful, no that’s not what hurts…it’s these damn wounds that hurt so much!’

In particular, his eye was absolutely throbbing from the day’s old injury that was still quite fresh there, his chest and back were covered in bruises, welts, and barely closed gashes which Grimmy hadn’t bothered to fully heal. To be completely honest these barely healed wounds burned like heck, so much so he was beginning to wonder if some of them were getting infected. On top of all of this, his ankle was also quite sore, he’d been kicked there rather viciously by Grimmy’s Killer Queen.

Aside from the wounds that were currently afflicting him, there was one other thing that was currently leaving him quite ticked off. The fact that Ran came all this way to inform them of some grand rescue, hooray for them! They were going to be rescued!

What pissed him off was the fact that she was sent to simply inform them, and not rescue them! Corren highly doubted it would have been all that difficult for Yukari Yakumo to make a gap portal big enough for Ran to bring them back with her. If the Yukari of the Pokegirl world was anything like the Yukari native to the world of Touhou, then it would hardly have taxed her to of made a larger portal. Odds are that there was more going on than he was aware of.

Yukari Yakumo was arguably the most powerful youkai in all of Gensokyo and there was very little doubt in his mind that this world’s version of her was very powerful as well. She had the power to manipulate boundaries. This ability most often manifested in her summoning of what he liked to call gap portals. These gap portals were literal tears in the fabric of space and time that allowed Yukari to travel to and from any location that she knew of. This was not limited to only one dimension either, as she was able to visit the home of her deceased friend Yuyuko Saigyouji, who was basically a princess amongst the ghosts and souls of the deceased that lived in the Netherworld. Yuyuko lived at a shrine known as
Hakugyokurou, which existed in a realm that was separate from the land of the Gensokyo and the outside world. Fans of the games had speculated that these portals could literally go anywhere at any time. She was also apparently involved in the creation of the Hakurei Border. The Border served as the barrier between the land of Gensokyo and the rest of the world.

So there was little doubt in his mind that if the Yukari Yakumo of this world was a powerful as the original version of her, that there was a very good reason that Ran did not bring him, Meiling and Sparky along with her. There were also his suspicions concerning Melanie the Psi-dyke and where her loyalty truly lay. If her loyalty were instead with either Lady Remilia Scarlet or Yukari Yakumo, things were beginning to make a bit more sense.

While he may not understand why he and the others were not rescued by Ran Yakumo, a potential reason for this did occur to him after a good deal of thought. Or rather the beings that may have been responsible for this illogical sequence of events occurred to him at last. It was more than likely the fault of Hentai, Sweetcunt, and Rawcunt, the Neo Legendary Trio.

From what he remembered of their entries in the Pokedex, those three particular Pokegirls had a perfectly understandable reason to hate the Limbec Pirates. Perhaps that hatred of theirs ran so deep, particularly in the case of Hentai, that they had little in the way of caring about who they attacked, as long as they were a Limbec. And if his instincts weren’t messing with him, there was at least one pirate amongst the Limbecs that was worth saving. That very well could have been a good enough of a reason to stall in rescuing them, because it wouldn’t do for a member of the crew to go missing half a day before the actual attack. Some of the more intelligent Pokegirls amongst the Limbecs might find that suspicious enough to tip them off to the fact that something was up.

It still did not make much in the way of sense to him beyond that, he would have really preferred being rescued sooner rather than later, when the full fury of the Elemental Canines were going to be unleashed on the unsuspecting pirates.

‘This is all just a theory, and I may be completely wrong…I might as well not get worked up over something I have no control over. ’Corren thought with a sigh, his eyes now opening as much as they were able to. With the mostly healed knife wound that just barely missed blinding him over his right eye, he wasn’t able to fully open that eye without it stinging a bit.  He took this last chance to take in the peacefully resting form of Meiling, before he would attempt to get some more rest, even if it more than likely resulted in him waking up even more sore later.

After all sleeping in the slouched half standing position he had been stuck in for the last day or so, did not leave one feeling pleasantly rested, especially if you are covered in wounds, and are having trouble supporting your weight on an injured ankle.

‘Oh well…whatever happens, happens. I just want to get the hell off this stupid boat and into a normal bed! I better not forget to tell whoever is rescuing us to not forget about my Cruiser! I’ll be damned before I leave my ride behind! And I really hope there isn’t much in the way of combat, despite wanting to get even with that bitch, I really don’t think I’ll be much more than a burden with my ankle in the shape it’s in, not to mention all of the other shit she did to me!’ Corren sighed in annoyance at the thought of not being able to do much in the way of helping escape, due to the poor shape his body was in.

“Well I better rest for now…don’t have a clue how much of that I’ll manage to get if things go the way I have a feeling they are going to.” And with that he closed his eyes in an attempt to get what little rest he could.

The Bloody Dagger: Elsewhere on the ship
As the Bloody Dagger was besieged by the relentless waves of this unexpected storm, the members of the ship’s crew went about their duties, totally ignorant of the unexpected visitor to their ship’s brig. At least most of them were.

Melanie the Psi-dyke had been made aware of the presence of Ran Yakumo, when the blonde Kyubi had appeared in her cabin not long after her visit to the prisoners in the brig. After giving Ran an update on the happenings aboard the ship over the past week, she was surprised to be informed of the eminent rescue operation that was being staged by a good deal sooner than she had originally thought.

It was as Ran was giving her the details on what was going to happen, that something occurred to her.

“I am sorry to interrupt you Miss Ran, but may I be so bold as to ask just why the operation is being conducted so soon? I was under the impression that the Rescue was not to happen for another half a week at the very least?” Asked Melanie, a small frown marring her otherwise calm features, her brows furrowed slightly in concern.

Ran gave a small nod and a soft smile at the undercover agent that worked for her Mistress’ ally, Lady Scarlet.

“It is good that you show enough presence of mind to consider all of the things that you have Miss Melanie. And to answer your question, the reason that we are launching the rescue operation so early, is because my and your Mistresses allies are getting more than a bit restless, particularly a certain Vixxen that had been known to harbor a severe…dislike for your breed Melanie.” Ran explained, her smile changing to a frown of concern at the end of her reply.

Melanie’s face paled slightly at the thought of the third party that was involved in the rescue of the Author that was only known to her as Corren Skyblazer. To say that they were well known amongst the various factions that remained of the Limbec Pirates was a severe understatement. Even mentioning those three by their names was considered a taboo on some of the Limbec vessels.

Of the three neo legendaries that were part of this alliance, Hentai was without a doubt the most bloodthirsty when it came to spilling Limbec blood. Her bloodlust and hatred for the Limbecs became even more pronounced when the pirates that she so enjoyed ending, were of the Psi-dyke Pokegirl breed. Hentai’s hate for the Limbec affiliated Psi-dykes and the breed in general was the stuff of legends amongst the ‘girls of the Limbecs.

“S-s-so Lady H-h-Hentai is growing impatient then…oh this is not good.” Melanie fretted, wringing her hands together in a gesture that only began to convey her anxiety.

“Indeed, it is with the safety of you, Miss Hong, and Mr. Skyblazer in mind that the operation has been moved up to today.” Ran replied with a nod, her frown still evident. “Lady Sweetcunt and Lady Rawcunt both implored of my Mistress that we move the operation to as soon as possible, as for some reason Lady Hentai is growing more and more difficult to manage. If I could I would bring you with me to Gensokyo at this very moment; however I would be going against the plan that Lady Remilia and Miss Patchouli put together if I were to do that.” Ran finished her explanation sounding almost terrified by the idea of going against the plan.

Both Pokegirls seemed to shiver in stereo at the thought of going against a plan that was formulated by either of their respective Mistresses.

‘While Mistress Yukari is one of the kindest people I have had the pleasure of knowing or serving…but she can be just plain scary when she wants to be, I feel bad for anyone that truly upsets Lady Remilia though…Her reputation is well earned.’ Ran thought trying to fight off the instinctive fear she felt at the idea of upsetting either of the two most powerful beings in the eastern hemisphere, let alone Gensokyo.

“That is a very good point Miss Ran.” said Melanie with an emphatic nod. “I trust that The Young Mistress and a certain assassin will be among the rescue team?” Her eyes seemed to gleam with anticipation, oddly enough at that inquiry.

Ran actually let out a chuckle at her fellow subordinate’s question, causing Melanie’s eyes to widen slightly.

“Oh they are certainly involved Miss Melanie! They are the rescue team actually.” Replied Ran, her eyes twinkling in amusement, a small smirk of amusement also present.

Melanie’s expression immediately turned from one of open anticipation to one of slight worry at the reply given by Ran.

“Is it really that time already? I would have thought that Mistress Flandre would have had more time before her next need to…release her urges.” Melanie inquired sounding a bit worried by this.

“Lady Flandre has apparently grown quite…bored without anything to occupy her time. Without Miss Hong to play with her, she has grown restless at a quicker pace than she normally would. According to Miss Sakuya, this will be the perfect outlet for her…aggressive behavior.” Ran replied sounding a bit troubled by the idea, but reporting it all none the less.

“I am somewhat hesitant to agree with you, having lived amongst the pirates as long as I have, but the upcoming meeting of the Captains of the Bloody Dagger and her sister ship The Winds of Chaos, should prove the opportune time for The Young Mistress to vent her aggression.” Melanie said sounding distinctly uncomfortable.
“But it will be good to finally be free from this hell, if my chief tormentors must be brought to the slaughter for my freedom…then so be it I suppose, it is the will of My Mistress after all, and it isn’t as though they do not deserve it.”Melanie shrugged still clearly uncomfortable with the idea, but clearly willing to go along with the plan, since it was what Mistress Remilia decreed, and it was the perfect chance for revenge.

Ran nodded once her expression returning to its usual placid appearance, a small smile was visible though.

“Indeed they do, and with so many pirates in one place, it is clear that all parties involved in this alliance will be satisfied.” Ran concluded with a small chuckle, before clapping her hands slightly together as a way of indicating that she was done briefing her fellow servant.

“I bid you good night then Miss Ran, and please give my thanks to Lady Yukari. I will see you soon.” Melanie bowed slightly to Ran as a way of saying farewell.

“And may you rest easy Miss Melanie, I shall return shortly to retrieve you.” Ran bowed back, and closed her eyes and seemed to focus for a minute.

It was then that another of the gap portals that the Esper Yukari Yakumo was so well known for amongst a select group of Pokegirls appeared right behind the blonde Kyubi. With a small wave of her hand, Ran turned and entered the Portal her Mistress had created, to travel back home.

Melanie sighed and got back into her bed for what was likely going to be the last time. A small smile formed on her face as a thought occurred to her.
‘I must remember to remind Miss Ran that the Human Male’s vehicle is stored down below…goodness knows what things of worth could be found within.’

Espers were supposed to be Sukebe’s ultimate weapon, seconded only by the Legendaries. Thirteen were created at first, each one of a different elemental type, some differing from the normal Pokégirl classifications. But for some reason, they rebelled against Sukebe’s forces and left for another dimension near the end of the War. They left no trace behind, no means of following them to wherever it was they had gone.

They were thought to be lost at first, but a few years later, a powerful Pokégirl was seen speaking to a Shrine Maiden. Shrine Maiden’s Tamer, a young man named Incaros, scanned the Pokégirl, which registered as an Esper. Soon after, the Esper appeared again, summoned by the Shrine Maiden via the contract that she had made with her. This was the first recorded instance of a Shrine Maiden’s summoning ability.

Espers are among the most chaotically arrayed Pokégirl types ever, capable of having nearly any elemental type possible. (There was even one rather ridiculous incidence of an Esper who’s magical powers were based entirely on food.) Very few Espers have been recorded as being native to this dimension throughout history, those that remain being mistaken constantly for other Pokégirl types. Fewer still have occurred through threshold, no more than 1% of all Espers occuring from it. Some Espers have been known to take advantage of this fact, acting in a manner similar to Farfuck’ds, pretending to be delusional to hide their identities.

No one knows if Espers will return en masse to Earth one day, as they left on very bad terms with their fellow Pokégirls. There is a growing belief that they may return to Earth one day, should Parity become a reality.
